Beautiful Mother, so loving and kind, her love was the truest love of all. With broken hearts the family announces the passing of Lilia Bettencourt, on Sunday, January 16, 2022 at the age of 78. She is now reunited with her beloved husband Jose (1999). Most incredible and loving mother and mother-in-law of Gabriella and Joe Iatomasi, Grace and Jerry Catania, Sandy and Grant Smith, Lily and Reuben Krushelnicki, Debbie and Tony Catalucci. She will be forever loved and missed by her grandchildren, her “flowers” Crystina (Evan), Michelle (Stefan), Joey, Kelly (Marko), Dylan, Jenna, Jacob, Claudia, Anthony and Carley. Lilia is survived by her beloved sister Teresa (Miguel) Bettencourt. She is predeceased by her parents Vitorino and Maria Teresa Oliveira, and her siblings Gilda (Manuel) da Silva, Beldina (Luis) Mateus, Henriquetta (Jose) Alexandre, Eva Cabral, Manuel (Isabel) Oliveira, and Joao (Maria Jose) Oliveira. Lilia was dearly loved and will be missed by many more sisters and brothers in-law, nieces, nephews and friends, who have been a tremendous support. Lilia will be remembered as a beautiful, kind, gentle, intelligent, strong and loving woman who was incredibly devoted to her husband and family. She had a great sense of humour, remained young at heart and was instantly liked by everyone she met. She was fun, playful and the best grandmother and partner in crime “what happens at Grandma’s stays at Grandma’s”. Lilia enjoyed family gatherings, cooked the best Portuguese meals, loved to bake, tend to her flowers and vegetable garden, and was a talented seamstress. She was also guided by her faith and lived by strong morals and values which she passed on to her family. She remains forever our Mommy, our best friend and guiding light who we loved so much and will miss so dearly. We are eternally grateful for everything she has taught us and the happy memories that will be forever cherished in all of our hearts. Visitation will be held at FRISCOLANTI FUNERAL CHAPEL, 43 Barton St. E. (near James) on Friday January 21, 2022 from 3 – 8 PM. A Funeral Mass will be offered at St. Eugene’s Church (232 Queenston Rd, Hamilton) on Saturday, January 22, 2022 at 10 AM. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, ALL GUESTS MUST RSVP on Lilia’s tribute page at www.friscolanti.com for the visitation. Entombment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Burlington. The family wishes to express their gratitude to our relatives, friends, the doctors, nurses and caregivers who have supported our mother and us through this difficult time. In keeping with Lilia’s love of children, she requested that donations in her memory be made to Make-A-Wish Foundation Canada.
