In loving memory of
Mansikka, Liisa Kyllikki (nee Parkkinen)
Who passed into eternity on Wednesday, November 30, 2022, at age 98, in Health Sciences North, Sudbury, Ontario.
Born September 12, 1924, in Kotka, Finland, she was the oldest of eight children. Liisa is predeceased by her loving husband, Vaino Mansikka, in 1978, and her loving son, Matti Jurhani Mansikka, in 2003.
She emigrated to Canada in 1950 with her husband, Vaino, and young daughter, Riita. They lived in Sudbury, where Liisa worked and retired from Zellers Department Store, shoe department. They were members of St. Matthew’s Finnish Lutheran Church, where Liisa sang in choir for many years, and the children participated in Sunday School and Confirmation School.
Liisa was an excellent homemaker and baker of all things Finnish.
Liisa is survived by her daughter, Rita (Gene) Swanson, of Duluth, Minnesota, grandchildren, Valerie (Henry) Turner, Heidi Hartman, Glenn and Neil Kellahan, Christine (Kevin) Schutt, Matthew Dagget, great grandchildren Sarah, David, Matthew, Mason, Emily, Tyler, Megan, Ashley, Amanda, Harli, and two great great grandchildren.
She is also survived by family in Finland and Sweden. She was able to travel there often through the years as well as to her daughter and family in Europe and the U.S.
The family invites friends to Finlandia Village, Lepo-Koti-Voima Hall, to gather for a memorial service on Thursday, December 8, 2022, at 2:00 pm.
The family extends appreciation to the staff at Finlandia Village, who were always so helpful and kind during Liisa’s time there.
Donations to the Finlandia Village, SISU Foundation would be appreciated in lieu of flowers.
