Paul Dennis passed away peacefully at his home October 22nd, 2022 surrounded by his loved ones. Paul was born in Wawota, Saskatchewan on June 17, 1944. He grew up on a small farm where he learned the value of hard work and how to be inventive. Rural life gave him a deep appreciation for nature. His early education was in a small rural school where he road horseback to and from school. He went on to complete three degrees in electrical engineering from the Universities of Saskatchewan and Calgary. Paul spent his career working in the petroleum industry in Calgary, mainly doing research and development of software for seismic interpretation and processing.
His passion for adventure found him on horseback in the Foothills and Rocky Mountains, wintering in Arizona’s Buckskin Mountains, RVing all over North America, and through parts of Mexico and South Africa. He enjoyed trips to Australia, the Cook Islands, European and Caribbean cruises, rafting through the Grand Canyon on the Colorado River, and a trip down the Nahanni river. Paul’s interest in history led him to write and self-publish many volumes of family history and to spearhead the stewardship and eventual provincial protection of a historical cabin and land along the Highwood River.
Paul is survived by Elva, his wife of 53 years and their three children: Michael Dennis of Okotoks and his three children Haleigh, Megan and Mitchell; Tania Karg (Evan) of Hanna and their children Holly and Natalie; Mark Dennis (Cheri Hanson) of Vancouver. He is also survived by his sister Claudia Sweeney of Calgary and her three children: Heather Knorr (Wayne), Steven Sweeney and Neil Sweeney. Paul was predeceased by his mother and father, Marie and Tony Dennis of Wawota, Saskatchewan.
The family would like to thank Alberta Health Services, Palliative & End of Life Care, and the MAID teams for their compassionate care and assistance.
A memorial will be held Saturday October 29th at 2 pm at the Snodgrass Funeral Home in Okotoks: 200 Woodgate Rd, Okotoks, AB.
