Obituary of Les Cruickshank
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Les Cruickshank on May 23, 2022, one day after his 85th birthday. Born May 22, 1937, in Saint John, he spent his early years growing up in the North End. Over the years we heard many stories of the fun, and some trouble, he and his friends got into, especially where it came to the pickle factory.
He met his first wife, Valerie, at a Lily Lake Pavilion dance back in the day and they were married for almost 48 years before her passing in 2009. Together they raised three daughters, Carrie, Jodi (Doug Olichny) and Nicole (Huey Lord) and welcomed 6 grandchildren, Kyle and Alex Fournier; Ella, Ethan, Julian and Caleb Lord. The family will miss his reading of the ‘Night Before Christmas’ an annual tradition started – well, back in the day.
He was further blessed to have met and married Geri. They were two peas in a pod and enjoyed more than 10 years of marriage together. Drives to Comeau’s for a seafood bonanza, playing weekly bridge games, sharing breakfast at Kay’s, annual strawberry picking trips, daily outings for a Timmie’s, and keeping up with grandchildren’s sporting activities were things they enjoyed.
He worked at NBTel for 40 years and made many friends over that time and had been active in the Pioneers.
Les had three siblings who have all since passed, Bill Cruickshank, Norma Breen and Ruth Leblanc. In addition to his family, he also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (506-634-7424). Resting is at St. James the Less Anglican Church, 1760 Rothesay Road, with visiting on Friday, May 27 from 6-9 and Sunday, May 29 from 6:30-9. The funeral service will be held there on Monday, May 30 at 11am. Interment will be held at Ocean View Memorial Gardens following the service and brief reception.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stoke Foundation or to Camp Medley. Please place online condolences and remembrances at www.BrenansFH.com.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Les
