April 17, 1933 March 12, 2022
Leona Margaret Blondeau (nee Bird), our mother made her journey home at the age of 88, with family by her side on March 12, 2022. She grew-up on George Gordon First Nation and returned in 2010 to live out her life. She was an artist who loved to paint and sew making many star quilts over the years. She enjoyed being around her grandchildren, great grandchild and great great grandchildren. Her love for her pets and all animals was endless. Leona worked for many years with the Native Women’s Association advocating for Indigenous rights. She was a survivor of residential school. Leona was predeceased by her parents Virginia Bird (nee Cyr) and Ernest Bird, her loving husband Maurice Blondeau, and siblings Orville, Glen, Vera, Billy, Etheline, Sandra and first husband George Poitras. She is survived by her sister Pauline (Blair) Carrier, and children Valerie, Edward, Pierre, Brenda, Lori, Curtis (April) along with many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. We would like to thank the General Hospital’s nurses and doctors in the Cardiosciences Inpatient Unit for their care and kindness they gave our mother. A celebration of her life and final resting place will be held at a later date (TBA).
