Leon Loubser Tuesday August 16th 2022

Loubser, Leon
It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of Leon Loubser on Tuesday, August 16 in Bowmanville, ON.
He will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his partner and PG, Christine Domasik, who cared for him with love and compassion through almost two years of illness and his cherished companion and best friend Charlie. Also left to remember Leon are his sons Scott (Lisa, grandson Jackie), Robert (Kathryn, grandchildren Chloe and Maxwell) and Matthew, brother Anthony (Anna, nephew Thomas (Lindel)) and step-brother Stephen (Elizabeth, nephews Samuel and Benjamin). He will also be missed by his extended family Doug and Carol Lindholme; Georgina, Bill, Daniel and Addison Farris; Doreen, Cameron and Frank Hall; Karl and Emma Blight; Stephen Blight and David and Alison Houston. He is also remembered by his sister-in-law Klara Kesmarky Miller and his nephews (Tristan Miller, Noah Miller and Lukas Miller) as well as his other nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Leon cherished the friendships he had with Walter and Liz Chang, Barry White, Harry Tomsett, Dave Johnston and Rod and Mavis Webb and will be fondly remembered by them. Leon was predeceased by his parents Dora Rosa (Chanoch) and Cornelius Bam, his step-mother Mary, sister Edelweiss (Ivan Rosen) as well as his wives Mary (Milne), Marlene (Wilson) and Susanna (Kesmarky).
A special thank you to Leon’s full time PSW and friend Shirley who we were so fortunate to have care for him and thank you also to Samu and Toby two of Leon’s weekend PSWs that were very good to Leon. Also, thank you to the ladies at O.M.C. Pharmacy for their assistance and support and to the nurses and doctors at Lakeridge Health for the care they provided Leon when he was there. Thank you also to Ross Funeral Chapel, Port Hope for making the arrangements.
Born in Randfontein, Krugersdorp, South Africa, Leon graduated from the South African Nautical College “General Botha” and then went to explore England where he was an electrician’s helper. He returned to South Africa and then came to Canada in his early twenties. He lived in Toronto for many years and enjoyed living on his property in Hampton for the last 25 years. Leon was a teacher in Toronto for a number of years. He was an early pioneer of progressive, child-led education and co-founded alternative schools. Leon then became a salesman travelling all over the United States. In 1999, Leon obtained a Diploma in the Education Program for Software Professionals from the University of Waterloo and created a program for medical records where he was an office manager until his retirement.
Leon loved to play golf at the Oshawa Golf & Curling Club and was a member for over 20 years. He spent four-five days a week there and played his last game in October 2020. There was always a special place in his heart for his many pets. Leon loved spending time outdoors especially walking or snowshoeing with Charlie on the trails on the property. He was an avid reader and enjoyed the morning paper, writing short stories, sudoku, European cars, the Toronto Maple Leafs, PGA golf, music, Lindt chocolates and loved his sweets/desserts.
As per his wishes, Leon has been cremated.
Please join the family for a celebration of Leon’s life at a memorial service on Saturday, November 5, 2022 from 1:45pm to 3:00pm at the Oshawa Golf & Curling Club.
Donations can be made to the Bowmanville Hospital Foundation (Lakeridge Health) or the charity of your choice.
