Leland Fred Pearsall Thursday April 7th 2022

PEARSALL, Leland Fred
Born May 23, 1921, “100 years”, passed away April 7, 2022 at the Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital.
Meeting his goal of 100 yrs was one of the best days of his life. He was a 5th generation farmer on the family farm working hard and enjoyed a long, full and very healthy life. He had the enjoyment of many friendships and married to the love of his life and business partner, Barbara, for 76.5 yrs. He always said that he lived at the best of times to see so many changes like walking behind a plough all day to prepare a field, to the big tractors of today sowing his fields in a day. He became very fit and strong, laughing about those thinking they could arm wrestle this young skinny guy and underestimating his strength. He milked cows, then moved to beef cattle and finally was a Drover with Ross Mangan, a cattle buyer. “I’ve been in most barns in this County”. He had so many stories and they always ended with how he treated people honestly. Honesty was a strong value that he held high and always lived by. He loved helping people and supported farmers to get their herd going or sitting with farmers to help and teach them how to buy good cattle for reasonable prices at the sales barns. A fellow farmer with a loaded truck and a flat tire prompted Leland to stop and load the man’s cow onto his truck and took her to the sales barn allowing the man to fix his tire and still get to see his cow sold.
Dancing was a great joy for both parents and he was dancing on his 95th birthday and doing the old fashioned waltz like a pro. He had his trade mark quick sense of humour. He was still making us all laugh right up until the day before he went to hospital. He believed that you add 7 minutes to your life with every laugh you have. Leland had the distinction of being a lifetime donor to the Picton Blood Donor Clinic and a Life member of the Picton Elks Lodge.
He is predeceased by his parents Rodman “Earl” Pearsall and Eva Viola Sullivan and his daughter Evva “Roanne” Therrien, and his sister Reta Brummell and brother-in-law Marshall Brummell. Leland will be sadly missed by daughter Rilla Rhodes (Leith), son-in-law Jack Therrien, grandsons Dustin Therrien (Crystal) and Derek Therrien. Remembered by his great grandchildren as GG pop to Arlo, Deacon, and Raya Therrien.
A Thank You goes out to the wonderful staff of 2 South, Prince Edward Memorial Hospital in his final hours; to the love and care by all the private care givers of Blessed Bridges Senior Care Services, most notably Catherine, Shawna, Tania, Amanda, Lynn, Kathleen, and to the support and kindness of “All” staff and all services at the Richmond Retirement Home; and to the Victorian Order of Nurses PSW Assisted Living Care Givers, namely Amanda, Ellen, Cindy, Justin, Faye, Katelyn. Quite the team of people and all gave him an exemplary quality of life in these last 2 years since Barbara’s death.
Resting at the Rushnell Funeral Home, Picton Chapel. Interment will be at the Glenwood Cemetery, Picton, following a family graveside service.
Donations may be made to PECMH Foundation “Back the Build” or the Regional Urology Program at Trenton Memorial Hospital Foundation (613-392-2540) or to the charity of your choice.
