Leigh passed away suddenly on February 6, 2022, shortly after the passing of his beloved wife Martha on February 4, 2022. Leigh was born in Walton Hants County, Nova Scotia, September 1, 1939. He was the oldest son of Winfred Thorton (Bub) Hazel and Avis Mildred (Cox) Hazel of Walton Hants County, Nova Scotia.
He is survived by his children, Susan (John), Trudy (Norman), Leigh (Ramona), grandchildren, Jessica, Jonathan, Maxwell, Sarah, Serena, and Jasmine, and great grandchildren Anastasia, Misha, and Maggie, his brother Gerald (Faye) Hazel of Nova Scotia, sister-in-law Carol (James) Lang, brother-in-law David Gould, and many nephews, nieces, and cousins and friends, and fur-ever friends, Radar, Molly, Emma, Frankie, and Gracie.
Leigh was predeceased by his wife of 54 years, Martha, son Michael, his parents Winfred and Avis and his baby sister Patsy, brothers’- in -law, John Bruno, Frank Bruno, sisters’- in- law Sylvia Bruno and Marlene Gould.
Leigh came to BC with his brother Gerald searching for work and ended up in Ymir BC, where fellow friends from Nova Scotia were residing and working. It was there he met the love of his life Martha, and he told her he was going to marry her. They were married on December 16, 1967, and they raised four children together. Times were tough and Leigh worked in the mining industry, logging and construction jobs and they raised their children in a healthy and wholesome environment, there were lots of adventures into the mountains picking berries, getting firewood and family picnics with friends and relatives in the back yard and to the river. Leigh liked to travel, and Leigh and Martha did a fair bit of sightseeing, shopping, and trying their luck at the casinos, around BC, Alberta, Washington and Idaho state and they also made a couple trips back east to Nova Scotia, to visit family and friends. Leigh will be remembered for his great story telling, compassionate nature and love for his family.
A family celebration will be held at a later date as per Leigh’s wishes.
The family would like to thank all the friends and family for their kind thoughts, food, and flowers.
