It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Lawrence (Lorne) Skolovy on February 26, 2022 of Springfield, MB.
Lorne was a kind, compassionate, proud husband, and family man, who leaves behind the true love of his life of 68 years Olive (Ollie); daughters Laurie Muzik and Sharon Doerksen; four grandchildren, Jamie Muzik (Christine), Jennifer Muzik (Spencer), Olivia Doerksen (Rene), Andrea Heppner (Brendan); and three great-grandchildren, George, Grover, Roderick. and special friends Doug and Olivia Skolny. He was predeceased by two sisters and a brother.
Lorne and Ollie were married in 1954 “when the Lions roared” as he’d say. He was an avid Winnipeg Blue Bomber fan so naturally got engaged to his sweetheart Ollie on a Grey Cup Sunday! They lived in Transcona for 18 years and then relocated back to his roots in Springfield. In 1972, they built their home where they enjoyed family life; friends; played card games and happy hour!
Lorne was fondly referred to by many friends as “Smiley”. He worked at the CNR in Transcona in the accounting department and retired after 35 years at the age of 55. His second career in life, was to maintain his properties, his grass was always cut as if it was a baseball diamond. In his later years, if there was a dandelion, there was a problem!
Lorne loved the simple things in life, animals, country living, golfing and especially snowmobiling. He enjoyed all sports, was a Bomber season ticket holder for 35 years and President of the Ukrainian National Cemetery for 30 years. A few of his regular words of advice were, keep life simple; everything happens for a reason; everything always works out.
We’d like to thank the team at Kin Place PCH in OakBank for taking such good care of our guy. Dad, Grandpa and Gigi, thank you for the special memories, your legacy will live on through each of us. We love you, forever and always.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Movement Centre of Manitoba – Multiple Sclerosis Program, 1646 Henderson Hwy, Winnipeg, MB, R2G 1N7.
