Obituary
Lawrence Learn McDonald On Tuesday, June 14th, 2022 Lawrence “Larry” Learn McDonald, loving husband and father of three daughters, passed away peacefully at the age of 93 after several months of declining health.
Larry was born on September 10, 1928 in New Westminster, BC to Eva and Frank McDonald. He graduated from grade 12 in 1945 in Burnaby, BC.
Larry (better known as “Mac” to his Air Force contemporaries) was sworn into the RCAF in Vancouver as an AC11 Aircraftman Second Class) on January 8, 1948. He received many promotions and was sent to military bases from McChord Air Force Base in Washington state to Tokyo. While stationed at Trenton AFB he met his wife Laurette through mutual friends and it was “love at first sight”! That love grew to included Laurette’s two daughters, Nicole and Louise, and they married on November 9, 1957. In 1958 they moved to England and during their time there Larry took his family on unforgettable tours of the UK and Europe. After returning to Canada and a transfer to Cold Lake Alberta, there was a wonderful addition to the family…a daughter Cheryl, was born. After more promotions and transfers (the final one in Ottawa), Larry retired after 30 years of military service and moved to Summerland, BC.
The simplest pleasures in life such as baking bread or cooking wonderful dinners brought the greatest joy to Larry and he spent many hours compiling an incredible cookbook that he gave to his children. The greatest love in his life was his wife, Laurette, and family. Over the years there were many wonderful holiday get togethers and gatherings that took place at Grandma and “Poppy’s” home in Summerland, memorable times that will never be forgotten.
Larry is survived by his wife Laurette and his children; Nicole, Louise, and Cheryl, his grandchildren; Carl, Jessica, and Chelsea; his great grandchildren; Kayla, Gabrielle, Lachlan, and Jasper, and his great great grandchildren; Zaden and Isabella.
On behalf of our entire family we would like to give our heartfelt thanks to Dr. R. Van der Ross and the incredible staff at The Vineyards Residence for their kindness, love, and compassion. Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.everdenrust.com 250-860-6440
In loving memory Dad
He never looked for praises
He was never one to boast
He just went on quietly working
For the ones he loved the most
His dreams were seldom spoken
His wants were very few
And most of the time his worries
Went unspoken too.
He was there…A firm foundation
Through all our storms of life
A sturdy hand to hold on to
In times of stress and strife
A true friend we could turn to
When times were good or bad
One of our greatest blessings
The man that we called Dad.
