Laurie Pickard 2022

It is with heavy hearts and deep sadness that we announce the passing of Laurie Pickard (nee Stanley) as a result of a very short but fierce battle with cancer at the age of 70. Laurie was born in Bath, New Brunswick and moved to Brantford, Ontario as an infant. She was predeceased by her father Marshall Everett, her stepfather Bill Stanley, and her brother Wendell Stanley. She will be greatly missed by her mother Nora Stanley, her stepmother Bernice Everett, her brother Dwight Stanley (Jan), her sister Linda Stanley (John), as well as her nieces and nephews.
Laurie will be forever missed by her best friend and husband of 42 years, Charlie Pickard. They made the most of every day together – spending time in their hot tub or at the beach listening to their favourite music, watching their favourite shows, cheering on the Dallas Cowboys, and going on bike rides around town. The two were inseparable soulmates, and Charlie is forever grateful for the perfect life that they shared and the family they created together.
Laurie’s legacy will live on through her three children; Tracy (Jeremy Sims), William (Rosanna), Charles (Kylie), and four grandchildren; Aria Sims, Ethan Pickard, Lily Pickard, and Charlie Pickard (due February 2023). Everything Laurie did in her life was for or with her children and grandchildren. Being a mom was the most important thing in the world to her and that was only amplified as she became a grandmother.
Laurie was a special part of the Pickard family. She joined the family in 1979 through her marriage to Charlie. She is predeceased by her mother and father-in-law, Eileen and Sidney Pickard, and niece, Erin Pickard. Though the Pickard family is large, Laurie’s loud and joyful presence will be noticeably missed at family gatherings by her brothers and sisters-in-law, Terri and Rob Collins, Sharon and Neil Parkinson, Mary and Mike Synnott, and Frank and Cathy Pickard, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews. Laurie was known for creating beautiful cakes and delicious lasagnas for family gatherings, as well as sharing stories and laughing with loved ones.
Laurie will always be remembered for her incredible baking, her beautiful curly hair, her amazing sense of humour, the way that she loved her home daycare children like they were her own and for her ability to talk to anyone and everyone.
Even in her last days, Laurie focused on ensuring that everyone around her was taken care of. Her heart was truly made of gold. We are so grateful for the medical care and love provided by Dr. Bedrosian and Dr. Harlick throughout these past few months. Laurie’s final days were spent surrounded by her family under the exceptional care of the nurses at Lisaard House in Cambridge.
Friends and relatives are invited to Laurie’s funeral service at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church (49 Blueridge Ave, Kitchener) at 10:30am on Saturday, November 5th, followed by a celebration of Laurie’s life from 1:00-3:00pm at WildCraft (425 King Street North, Waterloo).
As expressions of sympathy and to show our gratitude for their heartfelt care, donations can be made online to Lisaard House. www.lisaardandinnisfree.com/.
