Laura Violet Lathlin was born at Shoal Lake Cree Nation on February 18, 1959. Her parents were the late Fred Young Jr. and Caroline Young. Her grandparents were Fred Young Sr. and Mariam Young, Frances and Lucy Daniels.
She was a “Daddy’s Girl” in her younger years. She met the love of her life and married Leonard Eric Lathlin on January 2, 1976. They were blessed with one adopted son Derek (June), daughter Lylia, son Leonard (Kristii), son Carl (Tricia), and her baby Charity.
She loved life, helping people, camping with family, traditional cooking, berry picking, travelling and loved outings with all her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren whenever she could and especially on special occasions when family could come together.
She will be greatly missed because she was fun, outgoing, loving, supportive, caring, unique, creative, independent, and strong in many ways. She encouraged everyone especially her grandchildren and her chapans to work as a family and to keep the faith and pray to God for continuous blessings. She was a very forgiving, hard-working, stubborn (for a good reason), enjoyable person all her life.
She graduated with a Grade 12 Diploma from Wacihk Education Complex and also received a First Nations Language Instructor Certificate from First Nations University of Canada. She worked at Wacihk Education Complex as an Educational Assistant for many years before pursuing further education. She was involved with her church St. Thomas Anglican Church. She was an original member of the Wacihk Cree Singers and loved to sing and listen to gospel.
She is survived by her 5 children: son Derek (June), Jared, Janessa, Ross, daughter Lylia, Kisha, Kashtin, Tasha, Kanisha, Karisha, Keyston, son Leonard (Kristii), Leona, Reezon, Leonidas, Lennon, son Carl (Tricia), Latisha, Lakania, Lyndon, Leah, Lana, Landon, Lexy, daughter Charity (Warren), Draven, Drianna, Durance, Danielle, Durance, siblings: Harry (Dora) and family, Carl (Lori) and family, Clera (Ronnie) and family, in-laws: William (Shorty) Lathlin and family, David Anderson and family, Nelson Lathlin, Mariam (Brian) Azure and family, Kecia (Terry) Desjarlias and family, Debbie (Darrell) Custer and family.
