Laura’s Obituary
Laura Marie Hamm nee Borne, age 84, slipped away peacefully on March 1, 2022, at the Hospice at Glengarda in Saskatoon, SK, with her daughter Connie, by her side. She and husband Ed had recently relocated to Warman, SK, from Norquay, SK.
Laura was born in Portage La Prairie, MB on February 7, 1938. She then grew up in the Winnipegosis, MB area. She placed her relationship with God as a high priority, accepting the Lord as her Saviour at the age of 14 and baptized at 15.
As a young woman, Laura attended two winters at Winkler Bible School, and in summer worked at the King George Hospital in Winnipeg as a Kitchen Aid Caretaker.
In 1960, Ed and his parents came out to a wedding at Winnipegosis. Ed recalls meeting Laura at a bridge; and then letter writing began. In 1961, Ed started courting Laura. This all led to their wedding on June 16, 1962, and a move to the Hamm family farm in the Swan River Valley (in Saskatchewan).
In 1967, they moved to Thompson where Ed worked in the smelter at Inco. Five years later, they moved back to the Hamm family farm where they resided until moving into Norquay, SK.
Laura was a devoted wife and mother. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Laura was predeceased by parents, Dietrich (Maria); brothers: Jake, Henry, George, and Art; and her sister, Helen.
She is survived by her husband, Edward; and five children: son, Glenn (Joy) with children: Rachel – Dominic, Adreena, and Korbyn; April (Robert) – Eva; Angela (Aaron); Zakary (Casia); son, Gerald (Deborah) with children: Sabrina (Luke) – Joshua; Tyler; daughter, Connie (Gordon) with children: Aaron; Brant; Courtney – Maverick; Son Dennis (Zenaida) with Bianca – Suzette; Nissa; Omar; Razia; and her son, Donald (Connie) with children: Shannyn, Gracie, and Sydney. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews; and four siblings: Herman (Hilda), Vern (Marge), John (Sue), and Ellie (Don).
A Public Visitation will be held from 7:00-8:00 p.m., Friday, March 4, 2022, and the Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 5, 2022, both from the Chapel of Leson’s Funeral Home, 128 2nd Avenue West, Canora, SK, with Pastor Frankie Hyoungjin Kim officiating. Interment will follow at the Arabella Community Cemetery, north of Norquay, SK.
