Larry Hollis Spence
1951-2022
Larry Hollis Spence ,70, of Moncton passed away on February
10th, 2022 at the Moncton Hospital with his family by his
side. He passed away due to Covid
complications.
Larry was born on August 7th, 1951 the son of the late
Hollis and Ethel (Stillman) Spence.
Larry worked as a Heavy Equipment Operator in the
construction industry for over 50 years , having started at age
18. He was best known for his operating skills on the
excavator, although he could operate any piece of equipment he was put
on. He was known as Papa Smurf to his buddies at
work. He enjoyed woodworking in his garage and made
flower planters and wishing wells in his spare time. Larry
loved to laugh and tease, the more he tormented you the more you knew
how fond of you he was. His great hardy laugh could be heard
echoing anywhere he was, you always knew when Larry was in the
room. Larry could also be called the “instigator”
as he loved to get people wound up and watch everything play out, but
always in fun. He enjoyed times at the Hillsborough
Legion playing darts and cards. He was always up for a good
time. When he was around you would always be
laughing and smiling at his antics, he was the life of the
party. He had a special place in his heart for animals
especially his little toy poodle, Maggie and his cat,Prissy.
Larry never got in his truck without his sidekick Maggie
tagging along for the drive. Larry had a full
life, he loved his family very much. He will be missed by
all who knew him. Think of all the good times as
you remember him and smile as he would want you to
do. “Only a smile away”
He will be deeply missed by his wife, Barb
(Tingley) Spence; daughter, Natasha Spence ( Tom Coates) of
Moncton; step-daughter, Trina Wilson (Dave) of Pugwash, NS; step-sons,
Christopher Oulton (Kelly) of Hubbards, NS, Philip Colpitts (Nadine)
of Riverview and Ernest Colpitts (Nicole) of Miramichi; his four
sisters, Cheryl MacRae of Halifax, NS, Joy Ryan (Harold) of St.
Stephen, Pamela Spence-Breau (Louis) of Mates Corner, and
Marlene Goodwin (Alan) of Moncton. He will also be missed by
his treasured grandchildren, Kyara, David, Ashlie (Jamie), Nathan,
Cyara, Kaleigh and Madison and his precious 6 great grandchildren;
several nieces and nephews and by all his extended family and many
friends.
Honouring Larry’s own wishes there will be no visitation or
