Whitney Pier
We, the family of Hazel Kozera, are broken hearted and deeply saddened to announce her passing on Sunday, December 18, 2022, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born on November 5, 1932, in Sydney, Hazel was the daughter of the late William John and Lena (Launay) Crane.
Besides her parents, Hazel was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Stan ‘Binks’ Kozera; sisters, Rosie MacAskill, Olive Drover, Gertrude Mollons, Geraldine Ayre and brothers, George Crane and William Crane.
Hazel was a member of St. Albans Church, Whitney Pier. She was an avid Bingo player, Blue Jays fan and game show viewer. Over the years, Hazel made sure the family was well supplied with baking goods (especially her brownies), cabbage rolls and perogies.
Hazel is survived by her sons, Stan (Elaine), Norman (Gerarda), and Paul (Carol), all of Sydney; grandchildren, Trevor, Beverly, Kenzie and Caitlyn; six great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter, her namesake, Hazel; sisters, Linda (Ivan) Henderson, Anne MacDonald, and Shirley Gardiner; brothers, Alonzo, John (Doris), Robert (Vangie), Ronnie (Helen), and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the nurses and doctor of Palliative Care at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital for the compassionate and gentle care mom received in her last days.
Visitation for the late Hazel Kozera will be held at the Pier Community Funeral Home, Whitney Pier, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church Street) on Wednesday, December 21, 2022, from 5-8 pm. Funeral service will be held at St. Alban’s Church, Whitney Pier on Thursday, December 22, 2022, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Jackie Warren officiating. Interment will take place in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens, Sydney.
The family request that masks be worn in church.
Donations in memory of Hazel may be made to Hospice Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton County.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
