Kirt Gregory MacCormack
March 6, 1974 – March 24, 2022

MacCormack, Kirt Gregory (1974-2022)
It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Kirt Gregory MacCormack
born on March 6, 1974 to Wilfred MacCormack and the late Colleen (Fewer) MacCormack of
Truro, NS.
Kirt was pre-deceased by his mother and is survived by his father, his sister Dione (John)
Woodrow, twin brother Christopher (Danielle) MacCormack and niece (Brooklyn) and nephew
(Logan). He leaves behind his wife of 15 years, Pam Johnstone MacCormack and his two
beautiful children, Kai and Kadence.
Although not related, Kirt is also survived by his P.I.E. members who he considered brothers.
Kirt was a much-loved son, brother, friend, husband and most of all, father.
Kirt was a Teacher in the Science and Technology Dept. at Auburn Drive High School. He held
a Bachelor of Science Degree from the Agricultural Campus of Dalhousie University, a Bachelor
of Education Degree from St. Francis Xavier University and after becoming a Teacher,
completed his Master of Education Degree while working full-time and helping parent two busy
toddlers.
Kirt educated hundreds of students both in Nova Scotia and West Virginia whose lives he
influenced both with his teaching and his unique sense of humour. Kirt had a smile and a joke
for everyone. Even if the joke was not funny, seeing him laugh about it would bring a smile to
those who heard it.
Kirt loved to be outdoors in the woods or by the lake and spend time at the beach with his
family. He was a walking book of knowledge when it came to science facts -especially those
involving plants.
At home, Kirt was handy and would spend hours researching car and household repairs so he
could solve the problems himself. Whether his solutions actually worked was haphazard, but we
often joked that he was not only a teacher, but also an amateur mechanic, appliance repair
technician, plumber and electrician.
Kirt loved to impart knowledge to his students and children, but also loved to learn himself.
Although he complained about having ‘too many’ pets, Kirt developed a special relationship with
our cat Stripey which began the day Stripey appeared at our house over a decade ago and
introduced himself by jumping on Kirt’s back. From that day forward, Stripey saw Kirt as ‘his
person’ and the two were inseparable until Stripey passed away in August 2021.
Kirt led a life filled with knowledge and his legacy is that of his two children who he adored. He
continues to live on in the memories of those who were fortunate enough to know him and is
sorrowfully missed by all.
Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Kirt’s life and the love his family has for him will be
planned for a later date.
