Kirk R Bauer
1952-2022
Kirk left this world on Sunday, July 10, 2022 in the arms of
his wife and surrounded by his family.
He was born in Minto, New Brunswick in 1952 to Rowan and
Josephine (Stack) Bauer. Kirk, the youngest of three children, grew up
with his two sisters, Bonnie Ford (James) and the late Jill
Bauer.
From an early age, Kirk had a passion to understand how
things worked. His disassembled tricycle was the first casualty of
this curiosity. It was no surprise that his life’s work of
thirty years was as a service technician for Xerox
Canada.
In 1973 he began dating the love of his life, Karen (Hoyt)
Bauer. They married in 1977. Their union was a blessing in their
lives. Best friends and confidants, they enabled each other to fulfil
ambitions and desires, big and small. Whether sitting in the garden of
their house or that of Versailles, they were happy being
together.
Their son, Adam, was born shortly after their sixth
anniversary and “the best baby in the world” completed the
family. Kirk was very proud of the man his son became and the life he
and their daughter- in-law Jimi Nichol have built in
Toronto.
Music was a constant in Kirk’s life, whether
listening to it, attending concerts, or playing his guitar while Karen
sang. Friends and family were always around to join in on the
impromptu jam sessions and gatherings. He was always tapping along to
a soundtrack in his head.
Karen gifted him a 1979 MGB on his fiftieth birthday and Kirk
had many years of fun driving it around New Brunswick in the summers.
His schnauzer, Freddy, was often his companion. Dogs were always a
part of Kirk’s family, and being good judges of character,
even dogs of friends and strangers warmed to him.
A friend to many and always available to lend a helping hand,
Kirk was liked by everyone he met. He loved his wife and family and
was a man who felt lucky and happy with his life.
He faced his impending death calmly and courageously. Kirk
was thankful for MAID as it enabled him to die peacefully at home with
family and friends there to support him.
For those who wish to honour Kirk, donations to either Dying
with Dignity, 1835 Yonge Street, Suite 500, Toronto, ON M4S 1X8 or the
Greater Moncton SPCA, 116 Greenock Street, Moncton, NB E1H 2J7 would
be appreciated. His arrangements are entrusted to Cobb’s
Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 330 Whitepine Road, Riverview
(869-2007). Online condolences may be expressed at
