Kevin Paul Rioux 1963 2022

Rioux – Peacefully, at
the Prince Edward Home, Charlottetown, PEI, on Tuesday, May 10, 2022,
Kevin Paul Rioux, of Charlottetown, age 58 years gained his special
“Olympian Wings” with his loving “Sue” by his
side. Born on October 5, 1963, in Campbellton, NB, the
family soon after moved to Summerside, PEI. Beloved son of
the late Tom Rioux, the late Ethel (Shearer) Rioux. With
much love and heavy hearts Kevin will be forever missed by his
siblings, Michael (Susan) Rioux, Oyster Bed, Margo (David) Gallant,
David (Mary) Rioux and Debra Rioux, Summerside. Also
survived by Uncle Frank and Audrey Shearer, Campbellton, NB, several
nieces, nephews and cousins. As well by his Martin Street
Group Home “family”, Miramichi, NB. Predeceased by
brothers Kerry Rioux, Carl Rioux and niece Carly
Rioux.
Kevin was a very special Down Syndrome person who liked to be
treated as others. Throughout his years even with various
disabilities, Kevin was always happy, gave out so much love, laughter,
tickles and big hugs to all he loved! Kevin
participated for many years in the Special Olympics Track &
Field and Bowling teams obtaining numerous medals, trophies and was a
recipient for “Best Sportsmanship” multiple times!
Kevin had many great loves he so enjoyed such as watching hockey games
however Montreal Canadians were always his #1, listening and grooving
to his music, rocking for hours, watching favourite movies especially
Fonzie (and he wore the jacket with Thumbs Up!!!) , Hulk Hogan –
wrestling and his cartoons, going to workshop, swimming in Doo Doo’s
& Janet’s outdoor pools, shopping with Sue as he loved to
dress up, visits and vacation over the years with family yet he always
loved to get “home” to his wonderful long-time friends at
Martin Street. Kevin asked for little but his favourite
treats; from a young age were always “Hubba Bubba”
MacDonald’s & Pepsi! Anyone who had the pleasure to
know Kevin instantly fell in love.
We extend heartfelt gratefulness to ALL caregivers to Kevin
over the years at Martin Street Group Home. Kevin excelled
in his abilities from a young age more than the medical prediction at
birth due to each and everyone of you who loved Kevin so
much.
Personal thank-yous will be delivered, however we extend
sincere gratitude to Everyone who helped in any way to bring Kevin
home as well to all staff and new friends of Lady Slipper Path for
their kindness and special care Kevin received during his short time
in LTC.
Resting at Moase Funeral Home, Summerside. No visiting or
funeral service by request. Interment to take place at a later
date. As an expression of sympathy, memorials to Special
Olympics PEI in memory of Kevin’s participation over many younger
years as an outstanding Athlete would be gratefully
appreciated.
Down Syndrome
people give so much more …. anyone should be honoured to know
them.

  1. I had the pleasure of baby sitting Kevin many years ago. He was an absolute delight, calling me honey at every opportunity. I always have fond memories of this sweet young man. Rest In Peace dear Kevin. ♥️
