Kevin Donald Laing of L’Ardoise, formerly of Newfoundland, passed away on July 11th, 2022. Born in Corner Brook, Newfoundland, he was the son of the late Donald and Agnes Laing.
He is survived by his loving wife, Tammy; his sons, Daelin and Rory (Caleigh); siblings, Christine (Joe) Bergen, Juanita (Adrian) Briand, Dion (Crystal) Laing, Marjorie Head; in-laws, Willie and Susan Carter; brother and sister-in-law, Billy and Nikki Carter; nieces and nephews, Theresa, Mark, Nolan, Marcus, Ryan, Tyler, Timothy and Chloe; as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Kevin was the best of us. He quietly sat back and waited to see if people would accept him. Once he felt comfortable, he would begin to give you a glimpse of how funny, unassuming and dignified he was.
He appreciated the small things and wanted the big things (his backhoe). He loved to tinker around the yard, work on his vehicles, and spend as much time as he could with his best friend and soul mate, Tammy.
Kevin made everything special – even just tea, toast and Coronation Street. He took interest in everything important to you. He did his best to make everyone happy. He was a family man who made too many trips to Tim’s, collected too many cars, snuck too many cigarettes and was handsome enough to get away with it. I never could stay mad at such a gentle soul.
Kevin had loss in his life too; his father, Don, mom, Agnes, sister Myra, and best friend, Cyril. He missed them deeply. My father, mother and brother did their best to try and ease his pain by stepping in and treating him like a son. Billy was truly his brother.
He had his siblings near and far to help him remember good times in Newfoundland; to reminisce about hard work and laughter through his sisters’ and brother’s stories. I’ve heard many – especially about his best friend, Cyril.
He loved his sons dearly. Always there with advice, trips to Halifax and a tool to fix whatever was broken. He always said, “There was never enough time”. He was the love of my life, best friend, my protector and the best man I’ve ever known. He was a blessing in our lives – My husband. Our Kevy.
The remains will rest at Sally’s Cove Newfoundland; service will be held at a later date.
