Kaye Corby Eagan 1944 2022

Kaye’s family sadly announce her passing on
Thursday, December 15, 2022. Kaye was born in St. Stephen on March 9,
1944, the daughter of the late Edward “Ted” and Norinne
(Crawford) Corby. She is survived by Bill, husband of 56 years, son,
Patrick (Caron) of Dartmouth, N.S.,daughter, Lise (Richard) of
Ballarat, Australia, cherished grandchildren, Charlotte, Bronwyn and
Colin Eagan, and Bridget and Grace Bales. Kaye is also survived by her
three Corby brothers, Peter, Bill (Pam) and Ted (Donna) and their
extended families.
Kaye thought a great deal of her St. Stephen roots. Her
father passed away in 1954 when Kaye was the tender age of 10. Still,
she thrived thanks to a positive manner, a courageous mother and a
nurturing community. Her attachment to St. Stephen seemed only to grow
with time. She fondly remembered friends, teammates, mentors, teachers
and coaches. She was especially proud of being a key member of those
winning McGeachy-coached Lady Spartans basketball teams of the early
‘60s. When teased that she only lived 17 of her 78 years in
St. Stephen, her reply was, “That was
enough!”
Professionally, Kaye taught for 34 years, nearly all at the
Grade 1 level. She was a natural educator with an easy manner and
rapport with younger children .She quickly developed a passion for the
teaching of reading. Experience taught her best practices and she
never ceased finding gratification in a child’s mastery of
reading skills. The admirable results she achieved over 25 years in
Moncton schools prepared her well for a transfer to then-District 10
in Charlotte County in 1999, coinciding with Bill’s
retirement. Kaye established the first Literacy Coordinator Position
in the District, arranging remedial elementary classes and
travelling the district to mentor and model teaching
instruction-a rewarding capstone to her career.
Retirement in 2003 gave Kaye the opportunity to enjoy more
time with old and new friends in the area, travel, do some volunteer
work and enjoy more activities like golf and especially Bridge with
her favourite group, The Bridgettes.
In Kaye’s memory the family has established a fund
through the Fundy Community Foundation for the promotion of literacy
at the elementary school level.
A private Mass of Christian Burial will be
celebrated for the family with burial immediately following at the
Milltown Catholic Cemetery.
