Kathy Yvonne Sartoris
1974-2022
Kathy Yvonne Sartoris, loving wife of Jay Sartoris of Fredericton, NB
passed away unexpectedly as a result of a stroke at the Saint John
Regional Hospital on April 24, 2022. Kathy was born in Fredericton,
NB in 1974, a daughter of the late Patty Lee (Patterson) Colford and
Randall Stairs. She was a loving, caring nurse and was employed at
Pine Grove Nursing home for more than twenty years.
In addition to her loving husband of eleven years, Jay, she is
survived by two daughters, Emma Dewar and Livvy Dewar, both of
Fredericton, NB who were the light of her life; her twin sister and
best friend, Karen Reader (Ted), Fredericton, NB; her brother, Andrew
Stairs (Nicole), Fredericton, NB; her mother-in-law, Cheryl Sartoris,
Fredericton,NB; a niece, Gracie Reader, Fredericton, NB; seven
nephews, Sam and Ben Phillips, Ethan and Aydon Stairs, Jackson Reader,
Jack and Teagan Chisholm (Marley), all of Fredericton, NB; a special
uncle, Dennis Patterson (Laurel) and cousins Brent and David Patterson
(Ashlyn); the father of her children, Kristian Dewar; two uncles,
Brent Stairs (Mary) and Dale Stairs (Elva) and several cousins and her
faithful companion “Gus”. Kathy also cherished her
countless friends.
In addition to her parents, Kathy was predeceased by a special aunt,
Nancy Patterson and her maternal grandparents, Earle and Selena
Patterson.
While Kathy’s time on earth was short, the lives she impacted
was astounding. Her greatest impact and what gave her the most pride
were her two amazing daughters. They have grown into beautiful young
women, each with their own unique personalities and qualities. They
both exemplify all of the good that Kathy brought to this world. She
gave them unconditional love, a strong sense of self worth and how
important it is to stay grounded and care for one another. Her
daughters were her everything. Kathy’s legacy will live on in
her girls, always and forever.
Kathy met her husband Jay in 2010. Their love for each other was
instant. Some things are just meant to be, and Jay and Kathy were
just that…meant to be. They loved spending time together in
many ways, but in reality, to them, it really didn’t matter as
long as they were together.
The one that understood Kathy the most is her twin sister Karen. They
truly are one half of each other. They felt each other’s
emotions and knew what each were thinking. Their time spent together,
either alone, with the kids or walking the dogs was always just what
Kathy needed. If there was anything wrong, Karen was the one that
Kathy turned to the most.
Her brother Andrew and sister-in-law Nicole were so dear to Kathy.
Nicole and Kathy were often floating around the backyard pool in the
summers talking for hours on end.
She cherished her friends and the time she spent with them. Whether
it be shopping trips, dinner, sitting poolside, or simply a talk on
the phone, it all brought her great joy and happiness. She cared
about each and every one of you.
She took great pride in her career as a geriatric nurse. The
professionalism and compassion Kathy had for her resident was
unmatched. She cared for them daily and comforted them in their time
of need was beside countless of them with a gentle and warm kiss as
they passed away, reassuring them that it is ok to go. Our hope is
that they were all waiting for Kathy in heaven to welcome her in.
A funeral service was held at Knox Presbyterian Church, Harvey
Station, NB on April 29, 2022 with Rev. Ann Boudreau officiating.
Words or Remembrance were delivered by Emma and Livvy Dewar, Ben and
Sam Phillips and Karen Lambert and the eulogy was by Shannon Wiebe.
Organist was Elaine Raymond. Interment took place at the Harvey
Settlement Cemetery.
Special thank you to the staff of the SICU at the Saint John Regional
Hospital, namely Dr. Archer, Dr. Harry and nurses Jonathan, Kayley,
Andrea, Natasha and Rachel. Also a very special thank you to Rev.
Robert Montgomery for coming to our side on such short notice to be
with us at the time of Kathy’s passing.
