Obituary of Kathryn Bernice Joy Stewart
Stewart, Kathryn Bernice Joy – Peacefully our determined, faith-filled hero passed away in her father’s arms on Saturday April 2, 2022 at the Credit Valley Hospital, Mississauga. “Our loss is Heaven’s gain”. Kathryn fought the good fight, finished her race and kept the faith. Now, she gets her eternal reward. Kathryn just turned 19 on March 28th, beloved daughter of Heather and Greg Stewart. Proud sister of Geoff. Cherished granddaughter of Eleanor and Murdoch Robertson, Joy (Brian Harper) Stewart and Bev (the late Hugh) Stewart. Loved niece of Cathy (Mike) Alfano, Karen (Ray) Stewart, John (Carolyn) Robertson, James (Laurie) Robertson, the late Sharyl Robertson-Cole, Phil (Odessa) Brooks, Chris Brooks and the late Richard Brooks. She will be greatly missed by all her cousins and Gillian Langen.
In the 14 years since her diagnosis with Neuroblastoma, Kathryn met every challenge with steely determination and clarity. She put family, faith, friends and school first. She defied the odds so many times. Kathryn refused to be defined by her diagnosis and prioritized living a full life, having as many experiences with her family and friends as she could. She graduated high school with honours, earning numerous awards on the way and was accepted to five universities. She had the opportunity to attend Queen’s University in the fall of 2021 with the goal of receiving a psychology degree.
She was a proud ambassador for the SickKids Foundation, sharing her story at too many events to mention, and helping raise much needed money in support of childhood cancer research as well as establishing her own fundraiser Kathryn’s Krop 4 a Kure.
Her family is forever grateful to Dr. Irwin, Denise Mills and Dr. Morgenstern as well as all the nurses and other health professionals for the amazing care and support they provided to Kathryn over the years.
Friends will be received at the Jones Funeral Home, 11582 Trafalgar Road, Georgetown on Friday from 6-9 p.m. A celebration of Kathryn’s life will be held at the Norval United Church, 14015 Danby Road, Georgetown on Saturday April 9, 2022 at 2 p.m. Interment at Greenwood Cemetery, Georgetown. Reception to follow at Norval United Church.
