Kathleen Low Delamorandiere Wednesday August 31st 2022

We sadly announce the passing of our beloved mother, Kathleen (Kay) Low, on Wednesday, August 31st, 2022 at her home in Killarney, Ontario. A lifelong resident of the town, Kay was born on Christmas Eve, 1933 to Jimmy and Angeline Delamorandiere. Kay’s formative years at home provided her with many lessons which were a valuable part of her life. She is predeceased by her siblings and their partners: Margaret (Tom Reynolds), Laura (Ray Kerton), Robert, Alvern (Paul Salo), and Carol (Elwyn Beauvais, Bill Werbowsky). Kay was part of a large extended family, including her mother and father in law, Edith and Bill Low (both predeceased). Kay was loved by her brothers and sisters in law, her cousins, friends, nieces, nephews, and the many cottagers who enjoyed their visits with her.
Kay’s soul mate and partner in life was Laurier Low, whom she married in 1956; he predeceased her in 2012. They were parents to seven children: Murray (predeceased) (Maureen Oshell), Denise (Michael Zuefle predeceased), Charles, Grace (Ray Martel), Albert (Tracey Beauvais), Kathy (David McDevitt), and Bill (Julie Allen). She was predeceased by her son in law, Richard Lalande, and granddaughter, Nicole Lalande. She is survived by 11 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. She leaves them with memories of homemade bread, delicious cookies, and her welcoming arms.
Kay loved Killarney. As a young woman, she became a member of the St. Bonaventure Catholic Women’s League, and was proud to serve in various roles. She was honoured for fifty years of service to the League. In earlier years, Kay was Brown Owl for the Killarney Brownies. For many years, Kay worked at The Quarterdeck, the gift shop owned by the Killarney Mountain Lodge. She was the perfect person for the job, as her lovely personality and pride in her work made all shoppers feel at home. Kay and Laurier enjoyed participating in and contributing to many Killarney festivities over the years. They shared a love for their boat, the Fatima. Kay truly was Laurier’s “First Mate”. She tolerated his teasing patiently, because he was rarely able to get the last word with her!!
Kay was a remarkable woman in so many ways. She was a meticulous planner, always thinking ahead. Kay had a memory for details, dates, and names that would rival any computer. No one in the family dared to question her recall. She could tell a story complete with one-liners that left her audience howling in laughter. She had a wonderful sense of humour that delighted everyone. Even as her illness progressed, Kay often provided quips that were hilarious. Her toast had to be buttered “just so”, or it was sent back for more butter. She never lost her love of sweet treats. These memories and so many more will be held on to by everyone who knew and loved Kay. She was a gentle, kind, and wise woman, who offered so much of herself to family, friends, church, and community. We will miss seeing her in the living room window, waving good-bye as we drove off from the house.
67 Commissioner Street in Killarney is a home built with love. All are made to feel welcome and enjoy a delicious meal, interesting conversation, and laughter. A very lucky visit would include fresh fish, expertly prepared by one of the Low boys, both past and present. Kay and Laurier worked hard as a team through challenges and joys to provide their family with a foundation of commitment, hard work, and enduring love. These are the most important gifts Kay and Laurier have left us.
We would like to express our gratitude to the following: Nancy and Peggy, Kay’s homecare workers; Darlene Kidd and the staff of the Killarney Health Centre; Dr. R. Goluch and staff at HSN: Your compassion and excellent care will never be forgotten.
Kay will be resting at her home, 67 Commissioner Street, Killarney. Friends may call on Tuesday, September 6th, from 2-5pm and 7-9pm. Funeral Mass in St. Bonaventure Church, Killarney, at 11am on Wednesday, September 7th, 2022. Kay will be laid to rest at All Saints Cemetery, beside her husband Laurier and her son Murray. Reception to follow at the Killarney Veterans’ Memorial Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Killarney Health Centre or St. Bonaventure Catholic Women’s League would be appreciated.
