It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of my dear mom, nana, aunt, sister and friend, Kathleen ‘Kay” Reid on Saturday, January 15, 2022.
Born October 27, 1941, in Sydney, Kay was the daughter of the late Robert and Kate (MacLellan) MacPherson.
She is survived by her only son, Scott, Sydney; granddaughter, Stephanie Lynn, NL; two brothers that she loved dearly, Robert “Bob” (Mary), Sydney and Gordon (Trish), Halifax; nephews, Robert Jr., John, Ryan and Jay, Halifax; niece, Heather, Halifax; grandnephews, Owen, Colby and Jake, Halifax; and sister-in-law, Eileen MacLean, Sydney.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her only daughter, Kathy Lynn and Clarence, the father of her children.
Kay graduated from Sydney Academy, where she made lifelong friends and had such a positive nature that she drew you in. She was employed as a secretary for VIA Rail, CNR and Marine Atlantic, retiring after 37 years of service. Later in life, Kay worked at the Victoria Rose Store, Sydney. She made the Cape Breton Post front page while walking home to Cottage Road in wet snow, which is pictured above. A member of Bethel Presbyterian Church, faith was an integral part of her life. She loved walking early mornings to have coffee with the girls at the George Street Tims.
Cremation has taken place under the care of Sydney Memorial Chapel. A funeral service and interment in Hardwood Hill Cemetery will take place at a later date.
A heartfelt thank you to the Northside Community Guest Home “Theresa Terrace”, as well as the RN’s, LPN’s and staff at the assisted living in Williston House for the wonderful care, love and compassion shown to Kay.
Memorials may be made to the Northside Community Guest Home or the Cove Guest Home Foundation.
