Kathleen Donohue
1946-2022
Kathleen Donohue (nee McKnight) was born in Burnley, in the
north of England. The third of four daughters, she pursued a
secretarial career which took her from the NHS in England, to the
United Nations in Geneva, to the BBC in London and back to the
U.N. in Vienna.
Whilst in Vienna, she met and married a Canadian, had 3
children and set off to raise a family in Canada. In Calgary,
Kathleen was president of the Twin and Triplet club, an active member
of the PTA and score-keeper at her children’s baseball
games.
Six years later, Kathleen became a Canadian citizen and the
family moved to Saudi Arabia. After taking a writing class,
Kathleen discovered her talent and love of writing. At the start of
the first Gulf War, the family left Saudi and returned to Calgary
where Kathleen completed her third book based on her character of
Mercy Meadows.
Four years later, Kathleen and her family packed up
everything once again and moved to Qatar. In Doha, she
became an active member of several women’s groups including the breast
cancer support group, was secretary to the Doha College Board of
Governors and wrote a humorous weekly newspaper column entitled
“Life with Teens.”
Kathleen’s love of travel made her the designated
family vacation planner that included trips to Greece, Paris, Hong
Kong, Hawaii, Singapore, and many other
places.
After 20 years of living in Doha, Kathleen and her husband
returned to Canada and retired in Riverview, New Brunswick, where they
enjoyed backyard barbecues, nature walks, long scenic drives and
regular trips to Nova Scotia and PEI.
Kathleen passed away from cancer on May 20, 2022 surrounded
by her loving family. She is survived by her husband of 43
years, 3 children, 2 grandchildren, a sister in England and a bunch of
nieces and nephews scattered in a bunch of different
places.
Most important to Kathleen was helping others in need. If you
wish to honour her memory, please make a donation to a food bank or
animal shelter. Her arrangements are entrusted to Cobb’s
Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 330 Whitepine Road, Riverview
(869-2007).
