In Celebration of
Katherine (nee Speckert) Leber
December 6, 1935 –
February 11, 2022
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Katherine Leber in her 87th year. After a lengthy battle she is now at peace. Katherine is deeply missed by husband Fred of over 65 years, her son Freddy (Carmen), her grandchildren Elizabeth (Alex) and Fred Jr., and their mother Marlene, as well as her brother Andrew (Odette), and relatives in Canada and Germany.
Katherine was born in Liebling, Romania. She loved life and people and was always going to or planning a social event, always with husband Fred by her side. She was active in many German social groups, was an original Schuhplattler, and was an active organizer in the German Society of Montreal, the St. Boniface bowling league, and of course her famous New Year’s Eve parties which she organized up until a few years ago.
Her house was truly a home filled with love and the delicious scents of home cooked meals and desserts every night. She was one of a kind and will live in our hearts forever.
Special thanks to caregivers Cora, Faye, May, Mildred, Mynia, and nurses Joanne, Paula, Jill, Becky, and especially Nurse Lizzy who made her Oma’s last weeks as comfortable as humanly possible.
Due to covid restrictions a funeral and celebration of life will take place at a later date.
