Obituary of Katharina Dyck
“Lieber Heiland, voller mut, mach es mit mein ende gut…”
This was our Mama’s life-long prayer and we were so blessed to have our Mama, Oma and Gross Oma for more than 96 years… and it is with both profound sadness and joyful celebration, that we announce the “going home” of Katharina Dyck into the loving arms of her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
Katharina passed into her glorious heavenly home the morning of Friday November 25th at GNGH surrounded by her loving family.
Katharina loved her family deeply and she served her Lord with great passion, resilience and longevity. She is survived by and was the beloved wife of Franz Dyck for over 75 years, loving Mama to Peter Dyck (Annie) and Marlene Chubb (David) and devoted Oma to Marliese (Virgil), Katrina (Aaron), Maranda (Jeremy), Alyson (Bryan) and Christina. Cherished Gross Oma to Jase, Kierce, Jude, Lyra, Vada, Layla and Colter. Predeceased by her parents Anna and Heinrich Unrau and sister Anna Friesen. Survived by her sister Helen Harder and many nieces and nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews…
With both long and arduous journeys from the Ukraine to Germany and then from Paraguay to Canada, Katharina and Franz became lifelong and active members of St. Catharines United Mennonite Church serving for many years in quilting and in the ladies and German choirs.
A celebration of Katharina’s life will be held at St. Catharines United Mennonite Church on Linwell Rd. on Thursday December 1st at 11:00 am with visitation prior to the service at the church beginning at 10:00. A light lunch will be served immediately after the service, and then family interment following that at Pleasantview Memorial Gardens in Fonthill.
The family would like to thank all those who took the time and who placed utmost importance in being a part of our Mama’s life over the years. She valued her family greatly and your time spent with her meant so very much to her. Our family extends their deep gratitude to the care given to her at the St. Catharines Hospital and Greater Niagara Hospital as well as the love and support of so many family and friends in these final months.
A special thank you to Katie at the Rainbow Wing who made her final moments on this earth such a blessing to the family she was leaving behind…truly a God-send!
In memory of Katharina donations may be made to the Gideons who were especially dear to her.

Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Katharina
