(nee McLean)
Beautiful Karen passed away peacefully on February 10 at home, with her father, R. Gerald (Gerry) McLean, her loving sister, Christine McLean and her life-long friend Heidi Greetham by her side, after a five year battle with ovarian cancer. Karen was born in 1963 in Toronto, Ontario to Gerry and Violet McLean (deceased since 2009) and she spend most of her life in Mississauga, Ontario.
Karen lived life to the fullest, enjoying her friends, work colleagues and family. She worked at the Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) in Toronto and Mississauga for nearly 40 years, and devoted herself to serving and supporting many work friends and clients throughout her long career. She always looked for ways to make her clients’ business thrive, by advising them and going above and beyond to ensure they were given the best service. Karen loved seeing them satisfied and later in her career, she cheerfully passed her knowledge on by helping her team and mentoring new staff. She won a special RBC service award in 2019, a one week Caribbean Cruise for high performers, which was a dream come true for her and made her very proud.
Her greatest joy came from her desire to give back to children and those less fortunate, and 15 years ago her sister and best friend Christine bought a condominium in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic, where she became a much-loved member of another family and community in the DR. Every baby, child and friend received a gift of clothing, money, chocolate, or toiletries, specially purchased and/or donated for them. She loved shopping and going to the best sales to buy gifts for so many she knew in the DR. She also collected used clothing and items from all her friends and coworkers here, and took great care to ship everything by barrel to the DR. She never tired of swimming and spending time at the beach, hearing the local bachata music and dancing, and sharing great food and cervazas with her Dominican friends. No other place on earth made her happier. Her ashes will be released in the waters of her favourite beach close to her home at a later date.
Karen’s motto was kindness, generosity and enjoying life. She was an angel on earth gone too soon. She will be remembered by all her family and friends as a joyful, loving, and caring person who said it like it was! She did not want anyone to cry after she was gone, but to continue to live their best life, being kind to others.
In lieu of flowers please make a donation in Karen’s name to the Ovarian Cancer organization.
Details of Karen’s celebration of life will be provided in the coming days.
