Obituary
Doyle Kaitlyn Alexandra
1991-2022
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Kaitlyn Doyle.
A beautiful, nurturing, and matriarchal mother to 2 amazing boys, Caleb David
Doyle-Lupul, and Jesse James Earl Lake, a loving daughter to David John Doyle and Renae Eau Claire, and an incredibly strong sister to Shanaya, and Taylor Doyle.
Kaitlyn was a dear friend to many, and an inspiration to all.
Born on February 13th, 1991 in Sydney, Nova Scotia, Kaitlyn finally escaped her 3 year long battle with cancer (Carl) on October 18th, 2022 at the age of 31; with grace, ease, and strength in her heart. She left this world surrounded by a room full of family and loved ones.
Anyone who had the great fortune of knowing Kaitlyn, knew that she was the most organized and thoughtful person. Whenever it came to planning events such as holiday meals, birthdays, or even weddings of friends, Kaitlyn would always be the first to offer a hand. She couldn’t help but go above and beyond in everything she does. She prided herself on her baking, which she was always sure to bring to any family gathering. When she was feeling just a little nostalgic for her Grandmother, Helen Ginter, you could be sure to find some peanut butter fudge, or the sweet aroma of a freshly brewed cup of Tetley tea floating around the house.
Kaitlyn was always such a thoughtful soul. No person could ever out gift her, though there are many who have tried.
She was always calling and checking in on others to see how they were doing, despite everything she was going through in her own world. Kaitlyn was selfless, had thick skin and very honorably carried the iconic Doyle trait of being steadfastly stubborn and independent to a fault. And while Kaitlyn was more of a hard-ass than she would like to admit, she balanced that by showing unconditional kindness and love for those who were lucky enough to be close to her heart.
Kaitlyn spent her life dedicated to doing all things for her sons, Caleb and Jesse. She would work unreasonably long hours, only to afford a lifestyle for them that she knew was just a little more special than most. She never bought anything for herself, and would almost always come home from the store with a small gift for either of the boys. She was the definition of a mother; a true matriarch. The leader of the home.
The one who had it all together. Always loving. And she did everything with a smile.
Some would argue that her true beauty really started to show when she was diagnosed with breast cancer 3 years ago. Everything she did was multiplied tenfold in intensity. Her love became stronger, her bond with the people around her was deeper, and she began to document her life more than ever before. There is no shortages of memories from Kaitlyn. Her strength and determination shone through everything she did in her life, and how lucky are we to be left with the aftermath of it all.
Kaitlyn had an unbelievably sarcastic and dirty sense of humor that was frequently accompanied by ‘Your Mom’ jokes. There was never a shortage of laughter with her around. And though she may not have been fully present in someone else’s conversation, she was always listening and sure to chime in when a little extra spice was needed.
This way of being came from growing up in a house where the Patriarch worked long hard hours away in ‘the patch’. Often her dad would come home and share his new found knowledge of silly (and mostly perverted) jokes that Kaitlyn took, and moulded into a piece of her personality. She boasted a true grit demeanor and was sharp as a tack.
She was always making time to go off on adventures. I’ve never known a more impatient woman in my life. From the moment she woke in the morning, to the minute she would fall asleep at night, she was always doing something. Whether it was going to the Zoo with the kids, or going hiking and off-roading with close friends, that woman loved adventure and devoured every ounce of it around every corner in her life.
Though Kaitlyn may be gone from her physical form, she is still with us. Kaitlyn was such a powerful force of a woman, there is no possible way that she would let cancer be the thing that stopped her. If you were a dear friend or family member of Kaitlyn’s, you can almost be certain that she will be frequently visiting you. Since her passing, there are a few of us who have experienced stranger than normal happenings around the house. One of them being her youngest son Jesse, waking from a nap, and absolutely adamant on being left alone to sit in his dads’ closet. Not 15 minutes later, Jesse came out of the room, happy as a clam and said to his dad ‘Mommy’s here’.
And she is.
She left a piece of herself in all of our hearts.
Kaitlyn would encourage us to raise a beer in her honor, as she was not able to have a drink with treatment over the last years of her life, though she would sneak an ice-cold silver bullet from time to time.
Her family would like to invite people to share stories and reminisce over photographs and videos that she so frequently took.
And although her life was ultimately taken by cancer, I know she would tell us to all make a toast and say, “Fuck you Carl”, the name she so lovingly picked for her disease to keep it separate from herself. I believe this is what enabled her to survive her diagnosis for so long.
Cremation has taken place, as requested by her eldest son, Caleb, who wanted to keep his mother with him and share a small part of her with close family and friends.
