Obituary
It is with sadness that the family of Justine Katerynych announce her peaceful passing at the Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon on Saturday, January 15, 2022 at the age of 94 years.
She is survived by her children: Lorraine (Gordon) Allchurch, Donald (Lise) Katerynych, Lenard Katerynych and Donelda Katerynych; sister: Elsie Kutnikoff; grandchildren: Shannon (Ted) Lowery, Carey (Ken) Barrett, Darren (Taylor) Katerynych, Jeffrey (Amy) Katerynych, Terence (Cheryl) Katerynych, David Katerynych, Christine Katerynych (Tyler) DesRoches, Zoe Smith; great-grandchildren: Joshua, Zachary, and Nathaniel Lowery; Arizona, Savanna, and Hudson Barrett; Xannah, Chloe, and Oliver Katerynych; Travis and Denver Katerynych; Kathryn Katerynych; Evelyn, Emmett and Elise DesRoches; Seth, Lane and Margaret Katerynych; Anna and Sophia Smith.
She was predeceased by her husband, Andrew; her parents: Mike and Annie Yakiwchuk; brothers: Morris, Eddie and Michael Yakiwchuk and great grandson, Matthew Lowery.
A Visitation for friends and family will be held Thursday, January 20, 2022 from 11:30 a.m. till 12:30 p.m. at the Garden Chapel 1332 100th St North Battleford, SK. Graveside Service will follow at the City Cemetery with Reverend Janice Trost officiating. Lunch will follow at the farm of Lenard Katerynych.
Justine, our mother and Baba grew up in the Bromley area, north of Richard, Saskatchewan and lived there most of her life. She spent the last years of her life at St George’s Seniors Residence in Saskatoon where she kept active baking and playing cards. She never missed a chance to socialize and loved to attend any event that had live music. She was always fiercely independent and drove her truck until only a few years ago, when the Saskatoon traffic became too intimidating. As a farm wife she worked hand in hand with her husband, Andrew, our father and Gido, doing what needed to be done as well as caring for her 4 children. All of us remember her good meals and wanting to send us off with food when we left. It was her way of showing love.
Although she had several health issues, some minor and some significant she was never one to dwell on them. When she felt better, she made the adjustments needed in lifestyle and continued on. She was always interested in the goings on in the community and family and even when her great grandchildren were mentioned she wanted to know what they were doing and how they were and what she might give them. Everyone will always remember her strong independent character, good sense of humour and her enjoyment of a good laugh with a friend or neighbour.
