June MacDougall 2022

On April 27, 2022, June Marilyn (Dickson) MacDougall died as she lived, surrounded by family.
Born March 2, 1937, in Loggieville, New Brunswick, June was the daughter of Melvin and Isla Dickson. She grew up in Loggieville and Chatham.
Work as a pharmacy technician took June to Halifax where she attended a YMCA dance and met a handsome young fellow named John MacDougall. June and John were married on July 1, 1960. In Newcastle, they raised the family that was their pride and purpose.
June is survived by her children Heather (Randy Shaw), Cindy, Scott (Jackie MacDougall), and Sandra (Dan Gardner), along with her grandchildren Allyson (Johny), Kyle (Jessica), Winston, Victoria, MacDougall and Rylie. She was predeceased by her husband and her brother, Lewis (Carole Dickson).
At the St James and St John United Church, June was a Church Elder, a Sunday School teacher, and Explorer Leader. She was active in Kinettes and square dancing, and worked for years at the family pharmacy, Scott’s Drugstore in Chatham.
June and John were the sort of people who make families and communities strong – always smiling, always ready to help, always concerned with the well-being of those around them. Khalil Gibran wrote that “work is love made visible.” June and John lived that maxim every day of their long and busy lives.
When her children were grown and she had time for herself, June enjoyed gardening and watching her grandchildren grow. She cherished summers at the cottage, Dickson’s Beach, where legendary family gatherings were held. These memories, too, live on.
Special thanks to the staff at Howe Hall and Tucker Hall who made June’s final years comfortable and to staff of 3B South at Saint John Regional Hospital, who cared for June in her final days. Family and friends may pay their respects at St James and St John United Church, Miramichi on Tuesday May 3rd with a funeral at 2PM.
If you wish to remember June, please consider donations to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada, the Heart and Stoke Foundation or St James and St John United Church.
Funeral arrangements are in the care of Northumberland Funeral Home, 102 Pleasant St, telephone (506) 622-7741
