Judy Deis
1954 – 2022
Judy Lynn Deis (Onysko) of Redcliff passed away peacefully at St. Joseph’s Home – Carmel Hospice, in Medicine Hat on Sunday, October 30, 2022, at the age of 68 years after a long battle with rheumatoid arthritis. She was born on June 2, 1954, in Vancouver, BC to parents, Donald and Barbara Onysko. Judy was diagnosed with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis at the age of 14. Before her arthritis, Judy enjoyed many physical activities including dance, track and field and the outdoors. Although she was diagnosed with this disease, it did not stop her from living life to its fullest. Judy found great enjoyment in baking (especially bread and perogies) the arts, music, movies, her faith, family and her beloved cats.
Judy became a mother in 1973, with the birth of her daughter, Melissa while living in Nelson, BC. She moved to the Medicine Hat area in 1980, and became a mother again with her son, Deven in 1983, and daughter, Shireen in 1985.
Judy was a devout follower of the Baha’i faith and its teachings. She mentioned several times that the Baha’i faith was her salvation and greatest joy along with her children, grandchildren and cats.
Judy is survived by her daughters, Melissa Morgan and Shireen Deis and son, Deven (Ashleigh) Deis; grandsons, Donovin Powder and Ronan Deis; granddaughter, Annara Deis; mother, Barbara Blinston; aunt, Linda Robinson; brother, John (Maxine) Blinston as well as many cousins and other relatives.
The funeral service will be held to celebrate her life at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 – 13 Street S.W., Medicine Hat, on Monday, November 7, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. Those wishing to experience the Funeral Service via live-streaming are encouraged to visit www.cooksouthland.com and click the ‘View Broadcast’ button on the homepage at service time. Interment will follow at the Redcliff Cemetery with a time of fellowship thereafter in the Cook Southland Reception Facility.
