ROCKERT, Judith – It is with deep sadness that the family of Judith Matthews Rockert announces her death on June 27, 2022 at 84 years of age. Born in Windsor, Ontario, daughter of the late Belle and Ben Matthews. She is survived by her cherished daughter Wendi Rockert, and her treasured granddaughter Lauren Rudolph of Toronto, Ontario, her dear granddaughter Mia Manini and her great grandson, Daniel Arturo of Milan, Italy. She was the much loved sister of Sid Matthews of Toronto, age 97. She was predeceased by her beloved son, Mitchell, her late sister, Marilyn Muroff, of Windsor, and her step daughter Lynn Rockert of Milan, Italy. To her beloved nieces & nephews she was “Jude”, a very special confidant, travel companion and loving aunt to Miriam Jerris & Steve Stawicki of Huntington Woods, Michigan, Patte Muroff & Gord Walker of Thornbury, Ont., Lisa Matthews, Lori and Jeff Rosenthal and Lesley Matthews all of Toronto. Lovingly remembered by her many great nieces and nephews. She was a dear, loving cousin to Sharon Cherniak and the late “Bobby” Cherniak and to those in the Rotenberg clan and to those in the Rocket family. Also remembered by her faithful helper and cook, Joy. Over the years, she met and developed close friendships with dear ones scattered over the globe, never forgetting those from Windsor who were her childhood friends for over 70 years. She stayed in close touch with them. She believed that family and meaningful friendships were her link to the past and present, offering stability in an ever changing world.
Being in the travel business for over 20 years, handling Corporate groups and large Incentive Travel Programs, her agency HOLIDAYS UNLIMITED, was recognized by Air Canada for outstanding sales support in the Toronto District in 1979. On her first trip to Europe, in 1971, wide-eyed she saw the Amalfi Coast and the seaside village of Positano, in Italy. Enamored by the beauty and charm of this area, she brought word to Toronto, and her clients. Sharing her ‘find’, she put this unknown destination on the map for many travelers over 50 years ago, A few years later, Canyon Ranch in Tucson Arizona opened, a unique wellness and fitness destination resort. She bought a life share and invited family and friends to enjoy the Arizona desert with her and introduced this healthy lifestyle to her clients. She loved to entertain and plan events. Each decade birthday had a memorable celebration. She loved cruising and was well-travelled to most of the Caribbean Islands when in the early 90’s, she bought a timeshare on Aruba. It was the perfect fit for her – the ocean across the street, a pool out her door and a kitchen where she could cook her meals and manage her fatal food allergy. Many family members and friends joined her and deep and meaningful friendships were made with locals on the island over the almost 30 years she wintered there. She had an unparalleled and contagious zest for life. She was an intensely loved and valued mentor to the many friends and family who were deeply connected to her. There was no one in this world quite like her. She is a part of each of us and we are all better people for having her in our lives.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Judith Rockert Monday June 27 2022..
