Obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother Marlene Ryznar on April 16 at the age of 74. Marlene was born in Portage la Prairie on September 3, 1947 to Joe and Alta Symesko. She is predeceased by husband Paul, common law partner Leonard and her father Joe Symesko as well as numerous brother- and sister-in-laws.
She is survived by her two sons Jason (Robin) and Kevin (Tanis), seven grandchildren Michael, David, Nicholas, Melissa, Ally, Spencer and Julia. She is also survived by her mother Alta, her sisters Valerie (Ted), Karen (Eddie) and numerous nieces and nephews.
Marlene grew up in Amaranth. She moved to Winnipeg when she was 17. She worked as a book keeper for Pitsburgh Paints and then Stern Trucks. She met Paul in 1967 and moved to Toronto for a few years. Marlene and Paul were married in 1971 and took over the Ryznar family farm in Alonsa. Tragedy struck in 1974 when Paul passed away in a farming accident leaving Marlene with two little boys and a farm. The Ryznar brothers helped Marlene make it through and eventually Leonard came along.
Marlene also worked for years at Thompson and Tychinski’s New Holland dealership, went out on the road cooking for Nelson River construction, raised two boys and farmed. She always helped out the community with volunteering, pinching perogies, working at the rink or wherever help was needed. Her efforts never went unnoticed and in 2012 she received a recognition award for volunteering and service to the community of Alonsa, she displayed that plaque proudly. In 2000 the family farm was sold and Marlene retired in Portage la Prairie. She worked at various jobs in Portage. She enjoyed traveling, gardening, music, her dog Kylie and her grandchildren. She will be dearly missed.
The family would like to thank all the doctors, nurses and health care aids for taking care of mom during these last few months.
