Obituary
We lost my best friend today. I am not going to say she lost a fight or a battle, because it is not right to say she failed. From the moment Judy was diagnosed her main concern was for everyone around her; not herself. She went through major surgery, numerous sessions with three different types of chemo and far too many drugs to mention. To say the cure was worse than the disease is a significant understatement.
Judy is survived by her husband Don, son Chris, daughter in law Carolyn, grandchildren Aiden and Ellie; daughter Britny, son in law Ben, grandchildren Jaxxon and Kyrin; her sisters and brothers in laws, Fran Dubois (Norbert) Joanne Cooper (Glenn), Debbie Belinski (Dean Hunter); all of Revelstoke and numerous nieces and nephews.
Judy was born and raised in Revelstoke, British Columbia, and moved to Edmonton in 1976 where she was extremely fortunate to meet Don. After a whirlwind romance of 6 years, Don and Judy were married and were blessed with two great kids, Chris, and Britny. After a move to Okotoks in 1993, both kids got involved in hockey. There likely is not an arena in Alberta we did not get to (actually most of Saskatchewan, too). Judy was a typical hockey Mom; she went from learning to tie skates to wondering why the team was running a certain type of fore-check. The four of us loved every minute of every practice and game.
Judy also loved to travel. There were numerous trips to the Caribbean; New Zealand for a few winters and most recently wonderful getaways with our remarkably close friends to Vancouver Island for much needed rest, relaxation, wine tasting, meal preparation and whale watching.
Judy’s life revolved around her family. So many wonderful times with her three sisters growing up and right until the present with many trips and get togethers. And of course, her kids and especially her grandchildren. Gardening was a passion. She loved having Jaxx, Kyrin, Aiden, and Ellie helping her out, especially with the strawberry plants. Most recently Tim Bits hockey with Jaxx and Aiden playing their first year was really special.
There are very few tears left. The focus now is on the memories we made together, and the incredible contribution Judy made to our lives. We will always love you.
Thank you so much to all the doctors, nurses and technical staff at the palliative care team, the Tom Baker Cancer Clinic and the wonderful Foothills Country Hospice. All to the staff at Sobey’s Pharmacy for looking after us so well.
In lieu of flowers or donations, please spend some quality time with your family and loved ones.
