Obituary
Judith (Judy) Eileen Beelen passed away peacefully in Penticton on October 1, 2022 at the age of 68. Judy was diagnosed with Early Onset Alzheimer’s Disease in 2011. She was born and grew up in Winnipeg. As a child she enjoyed travelling with her family to track the solar eclipses. After graduating from the University of Manitoba she moved to Edmonton, then Red Deer in Alberta with her husband, Leo, and later to Summerland, then Penticton, BC.
Judy loved music, from Chopin to The Beatles. She enjoyed playing and teaching piano, clowning and was an avid painter. Judy was a great Social Worker who very much wanted to work with and help people in a compassionate and caring manner. She treated everyone equally and with respect and had a way of touching everyone’s lives. Judy had a beautiful, contagious smile and laugh. She enjoyed and had an interest in nature, and science, especially genetics. She loved swimming and was proud of her lifeguarding skills. While in Alberta Judy enjoyed raising vegetables and chickens on her and Leo’s Delburne acreage. She looked forward to marketing the produce to local grocery stores, and the roasting size chickens to individuals.
She is survived by her loving husband of 46 years, Leo; eldest son, Richard; daughter, Gina; son, Tyler; daughter, Chantelle; brother, Don (Jennifer); mother-in-law, Aartje; sister-in-law, Yvonne (Barry); brother-in-law, Gerry (Brian); brother-in-law, Robert (Leona); cousins, Leslie, Pam (Mark), and Bob (Mia); and Uncle Jim Diehl (Elsa).
Judy was predeceased by her sister, Betty (1982); mother, Muriel (1997); father, Tom (2009); and father-in-law, Leo (2019).
We want to thank all the staff at Haven Hill Care Centre in Penticton for providing such compassionate care to Judy since her admission in June, 2020.
Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada, the Alzheimer’s Society of BC, or a charity of your choice.
