JUDITH (Judy) ANN ANTONY (née FINLAYSON)
Peacefully, on May 14, 2022, Judith (Judy) Antony, passed away at the age of 61 with family by her side.
She is survived by her husband Dennis of 26 years, Father Mel, Father-in-law Dave Antony, brother Greg, brother Doug (Cindy), sister Kristy and many cousins, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her Mother, Pat Finlayson and Mother-in-law Irene Antony.
Judy was born in Winnipeg on May 2, 1961. Through her childhood and teen years, Judy became involved with synchronized swimming and baton twirling with the Winnipeg Blue Bomberettes. As a Bomberette, she twirled Fire Batons, competed at competitions in Canada and the US and performed at half-time for many Bomber games.
Judy was a devoted member of Westworth United Church. She oversaw the Nursery every Sunday for years. Through church involvement Judy became an Explorer, then moved on to CGIT, where she maintained a lifelong commitment as leader, Camp Cabin leader and helped her mom as camp cook. Judy loved her time at camp, from Vespers on Campfire Rock to skits and singsongs at the main lodge. Her strong faith and a desire for helping younger girls through life helped to formulate a passion for teaching.
Judy loved children and helped them to become better people. She obtained her B.Ed. and started teaching and working in a school for autistic children at the HSC. Her first classroom teaching jobs were in LaSalle and then Morden, MB. She then worked at numerous schools in the Seven Oaks School Division. Judy had a positive impact on every child she taught as evidenced by many letters and cards that were sent to her during her teaching career and in her life after teaching.
Judy embraced dogs, cats, horses, bears, wolves, chickadees, loons and all aspects of nature. She could not wait to fish upon her arrival at the family cottage at Jessica Lake in the Whiteshell. The Point at Jessica Lake was her “Peace”
She will be greatly missed by her family, friends and students that her life touched.
We want to thank the staff at Beacon Hill Lodge for their comfort and care of Judy and our family, during her time spent there.
To honour her memory, donations can be made to Rossbrook House – please specify “Judith Finlayson Antony Scholarship Fund” or the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba.
A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, September 17, 2022, at 2:00 PM at Westworth United Church – 1750 Grosvenor Avenue at Lanark, Winnipeg – Fellowship Following Service
