Joyce Lenore Tureski (nee Wilkins) passed peacefully away at the age of 90 on March 22, 2022 in Guelph, Ontario. Beloved wife to the late John Tureski (2021), she was also predeceased by her son David.(1981). She leaves behind her children Lori, Marlena (Ralph), and Trevor; her sister-in-law Helen Tureski; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and life-long friends.
Joyce was born on November 10,1931 in Reston, Manitoba, the daughter of Arnold and Edith Wilkins. She was a gifted musician. She studied piano with Lorne Watson at Brandon University (BU) and joined the Faculty of Music as an instructor at the age of 19. Known for her ardent performances of the work of Chopin, Schumann, and Rachmaninoff, her BU studio was dubbed “Miss Wilkins’s Passion Pit.” Joyce eventually left BU for the Bank of Montreal, working in Winnipeg and Calgary until she married John in 1957. They raised their family in Glenboro, Manitoba, Regina, Saskatchewan, and Sarnia, Ontario; and moved to Guelph in their latter years.
Joyce’s devotion to music remained a constant throughout her life. She was wildly resourceful and her energy was boundless. She worked as a piano teacher, church organist, accompanist and performer; all while enjoying a successful career as a realtor for 30 years, finally retiring at 80. Joyce will be fondly remembered by all friends and extended family members. The family wishes to thank the staff of the St Joseph’s Health Centre in Guelph for their kindness and skillful, compassionate care of Joyce.
Interment will take place at Lakeview Cemetery in Sarnia on April 2, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Canadian Red Cross Ukrainian Humanitarian Crisis fund or a charity of one’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
