Obituary
With sadness and appreciation for a remarkable woman, and a cherished, beautiful mother and her long life well lived, the family announces the passing of Joyce Graham on June 10, 2022, in Saint John, NB.
Joyce was born in Saskatoon, SK, on March 21, 1931 to the late E. David and Elizabeth (Reynolds) Bentham. She was the loving wife of the late James “Jim” Graham. The Grahams lived in Kingston, Ontario, Thetford Mines, Pointe Claire and Arvida, Quebec, and finally settled into the Mount Pleasant neighbourhood of Saint John, their century-plus three story home filled with laughter, numerous pets and the happy aromas of her wonderful cooking in the many years they lived there. She was known for her pies.
Joyce had an illustrious career in the Intensive Care Unit of St. Joseph’s Hospital before moving to Rocmaura Nursing Home to accommodate her five children. She and Jim loved to explore NB by car, having many impromptu picnics along the way. She supported her busy family in their many endeavours and provided them with many opportunities in their lives. She loved to travel, and for many years followed Skate Canada events around the world, making many friends along the way and visiting places such as Russia and China.
Joyce knit many, many beautifully complex sweaters for her family, especially her grandchildren. She loved to play Bridge. In recent years she took up lawn bowling. She was admired throughout her life for her intelligence, charm, astuteness, selflessness and strength of character. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to know her.
Joyce lives on in her children, David, Susan, Mary (David), Anne and Andrew; and her 5 cherished granddaughters, Leilani (Thomas), Annette, Maile, Mahina and Katherine. Her family also includes her brother, Richard (Lorraine) and sister Jan (Don) ; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was predeceased by her son-in-law, Christopher Lee.
Arrangements are entrusted to Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424) There will be a Celebration of Life to be held at Chateau de Champlain Activity Room on Thursday July 7th at 2:30 p.m. Proof of Vaccinations are required to enter the facility. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in her memory to the charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by her family. Internment of Joyce’s urn will take place Monday September 12th, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at Fernhill Cemetery. Listed below is a link for those who are unable to attend.
