Joyce’s Obituary
It is with great sadness and deep loss that the family of Joyce Graham of Nackawic, NB, formerly of Crow Hill, NB announces that she is finally at peace following her battle with ALS. She passed peacefully at Hospice House in Fredericton on Sunday, July 31 at the age of 73. Joyce is survived by two sons, Larry Graham, Nackawic, NB, and Jeff Graham (Annie), Fredericton, NB; four grandchildren, Jamie Graham, Daniel Graham (Samantha), Lindsay Graham, and Ryan Graham; one great-granddaughter, Kiera Graham, four sisters; Barbara Grant (Richard), Stella DeMerchant (Byron), Beryl Scott (Robert), and Zella Campbell, two brothers; Clifford Durling (Joan), and Floyd Durling, several sisters-in-laws, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Joyce was predeceased by her husband, Lawrence Graham, her parents, Donald and Vera Durling, and two sisters, Freda English (Claude), Mona Delong (Lloyd), and a sister-in-law, Ruth Durling, a brother-in-law Pat Campbell as well as a nephew, Chris Delong.
Joyce was a generous woman who strived to serve others, often doing all she could to help those in need. She loved watching TV shows and spending time with her family. She adored animals and doted on her pets, especially her cat, Mr. Tibbs, who recently passed. Joyce was fond of traveling, including trips to Calgary, New York, Indiana, Ontario, Quebec, New Hampshire, Maine, PEI, and Nova Scotia. Over the last year, she traveled the province visiting different ice cream stands and enjoying local attractions.
She spent most of her career working as an Educational Assistant for ASD-W at Millville Elementary, Nackawic Elementary, and Nackawic Middle School where she retired in 2021. During her career, Joyce touched the lives of many children in the local schools and inspired others with the patience and quality of care she provided. She worshipped at Maple Ridge Wesleyan Church faithfully as a Sunday School Teacher, and Junior Church Leader singing in a quartet, the choir, and special solo numbers. Joyce enjoyed serving on committees for decorating, cooking, and outreach. She watched faithfully online during the past two years when she became unable to attend in person.
During her struggle with ALS, she was supported by Stan Cassidy, Extra-mural Services, and Bayshore Home Health. She appreciated the special touch her home support workers gave her, including Velvet Dore, Rhonda Freeman, Judy Wood, and especially Maria Dudas, who went above and beyond in her duties and held a very special place in her heart.
