Obituary
Joyce Ellen Schilling died on Friday November 11th, 2022, at the age of 86, in the North Island Hospital in Comox Valley.
Joyce was born in Fort William (Thunder Bay), Ontario on December 21, 1935, to Frederick and Nellie Farwell. She grew up with four siblings, George, Mary, Dorothy, and Susan. On May 21, 1954, Joyce married Charles Franklin Schilling and they moved to Powell River in 1982. After Charles’ death, Joyce moved to Courtenay to be closer to her sister Dorothy. Joyce was active throughout her adult life with the Rebekah Lodge, in both Thunder Bay and Powell River. She loved to paint, play cards and Scrabble.
Joyce is survived by her sons; Donald (Gwen) of Edmonton, AB, Jack, aka John (Tamara) of Peterborough, ON, daughters; Nancy Harris of Courtenay, B.C., Tracy (David) Cardinal of Victoria, B.C., and Terry Constantine of Victoria, B.C., grandchildren; Nicholas, Vanessa (Roger), Jenifer, Michael, Sterling, Valentino, Nabila, Bonnie, Kyle, Maya, Rebekah, Jaycee/Emily (Alex), Matthew, and Joshua as well as great grandchildren; Hannah, Hailey, Raina, and Skylar.
Joyce is predeceased by her husband Charlie, parents Frederick and Nellie, brother George and sisters, Mary, and Dorothy.
We would like to thank all the doctors and nurses at the Comox Valley Hospital, Krista at Toneff Funeral Services for all her wonderful help, and all the family and friends who were and continue to be there to support us.
There will be no formal service. Joyce’s cremated remains will be interred at Hatley Memorial Garden, in Victoria.
