It is with great sadness that the family of Josephine (Jo) Julia Whalen announces her passing which occurred on Thursday, September 8, 2022, at Shannex Tucker Hall. Born in Saint John, New Brunswick on December 20, 1927, she was the daughter to the late Thomas and Mary (McCurdy) Riley.
Besides her parents, Jo was predeceased by her husband Hugh P. Whalen; stepdaughter, Lorraine Shannon (Vincent); and by siblings James F. Riley (Claire), John G. Riley, Catherine McNulty (Gordon), Teresa Riley, Thomas J. Riley, Margaret Sherwood (Peter) and Joan O’Rourke (Antony).
Survived by stepson Emery Whalen (Barbara) and stepdaughter Carole Hamilton (Derek), by several step-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Jo taught grade two at St. Peters and M Gerald Teed schools. In retirement she enjoyed traveling with her husband, golf and curling. She was especially fond of her bridge club and the very close friendships she had.
Nana will be missed by Colin, Chris and Geoff, Lesley and Matthew, and by Kate. Much loved, Aunt Jo will be remembered as a wonderfully generous, kind, caring and spiritual person.
Many thanks to the staff of Tucker Hall – Lily Court for their care and compassion.
