Josephine Imelda Gatherall 2022

Josephine Imelda Gatherall
December 10, 1928 – August 12, 2022

Gatherall, Josephine I. (December 10, 1928 – August 12, 2022)
After a lengthy illness, Josephine passed peacefully away and entered into eternal life in her 94th year in the presence of her niece and goddaughter Regina after the family had held vigil with her during the day. Predeceased by her parents, Thomas and Gertrude (Colbert) Gatherall, her sister, Frances Gatherall, and her brother-in-law, Fred Bruce. Leaving to mourn are her sisters, Theresa Bruce, Madonna Gatherall, R.S.M., and brother, Martin (Esther) Gatherall, as well as nieces, Madonna Byrne (Robert), Regina Bruce, Trudy Rice (Robert), Imelda Winsor (Alex), Fred Bruce, and great- and great-great nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.
Josephine was a quiet, humble, devout religious woman of great compassion and charity who would do without in order to help others. She was also the most wonderful daughter, sister, aunt, godmother, and friend that anyone could ever have. Josephine was highly educated obtaining a B.A.(Ed.), B.A., and B.Sc. from Memorial University of Newfoundland and a M.Ed. from the University of Toronto. She was a teacher for 40+ years teaching in La Manche, St. Michaels, Kelligrews, Corner Brook, Grand Falls, Labrador City, St. John’s (St. Teresa’s), and finishing her outstanding and lengthy teaching career at Goulds (St. Kevin’s). Josephine loved to socialize and travel. She was very involved in the Church. As a member of the St. Kevin’s Parish, Goulds for 44 years, she was tireless in her service as lector and communion minister at Eucharistic Liturgies, as coordinator of the Baptismal program, as a member of the Parish Bereavement Team, and as a parish visitor at seniors’ homes. In 1978 she became a member of the Parish Catholic Women’s League (CWL) and served in many roles, including twice as President. Her dedication to her teaching career and the Church was exemplary. Even greater than that was her love for her family and friends and she always went far and beyond to counsel, assist, aid, and to give great hugs and comfort when needed.
Cremation has taken place. A wake will be held at Caul’s Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road on Tuesday, August 23, 2022 from 4–8:30.
