Joseph Wilson Smardon 2022

Joseph’s Obituary
Joseph Wilson Smardon succumbed to his 4-year-long battle with cancer in the early morning of Tuesday, Aug 23.. He passed away at home surrounded by the love of his family. His adoring wife Brenda, son Joey, daughter Cassie and niece Sheralyn Sabean were all present to send him off with the angels. Joe had a variety of careers over the course of his life which were almost as eclectic as his stories. For many years he worked as a paramedic (which he loved), an embalmer in the funeral business, and then for DND before retiring. Joe grew up an avid hunter and fisherman but as the seasons changed, he quickly came to realize that it was his true love of nature that drew him to the woods. As his love of wildlife grew stronger each year, he evolved into a nature watcher rather than a sportsman. Anyone who knew Joe can attest to the fact that his quick wit and humor often kept people on their toes. He was playful and young at heart and always ready with a joke or some type of teasing shenanigans. He was also wise, knowledgeable, and insightful. His love of history coupled with his vast variety of life experiences always left Joe with a story to tell. When he was delivered into God’s hands, the world lost a great storyteller, jokester, husband, father, uncle, and friend. Although this chapter is over, the story will live on through all he has touched for generations to come. He will be truly missed.
Special thanks to Dr. Bramstrup, Dr. Galvis, the Oncology team, the Palliative Care team, Nurse Maureen, and Nurse SJ from the Upper River Valley Hospital…the ExtraMural team…all were very caring in their treatment of Joe. Special thanks to my niece Jen Ponder-Sabean for this beautiful write-up…a great final tribute to her Uncle Joe.
