Joseph Robert Patrick Waldriff (Known to all as Pat), husband of the late Theresa (Wade) Waldriff, passed away peacefully with his family by his side at the Miramichi Regional Hospital on Monday, September 12, 2022 at the age of 79.
Born in Kearney, Ontario in 1942, he was the son of the late John and Cecile (Ball) Waldriff.
Pat served in the air force where he learned his electronics trade. After his discharge he work for CN telecommunications and transferred from Ontario to Miramichi in 1977. Pat was a minor hockey coach and volunteer firefighter in Ontario and continued his volunteer work in his new community. He was a volunteer with the Newcastle Fire Department for many years and he also continued to coach minor hockey. Pat was also heavily involved in curling, whether that was as a coach, player or volunteer. After his retirement he was a member of the Newcastle Lions Club for several years and was a past president. His favourite place to spend time was at the camp, especially during hunting season where there was never a shortage of food, drinks, tall tales or great friends.
He is survived by his son John (Sheila) of Miramichi; and daughter Paula Bishop (Dave) of North Bay, Ontario; two sisters, Linda Mustonen (late Pentti) of Copper Cliff Ontario, and Cathy Minor (Ralph) of North Bay, Ontario; four grandchildren, Matthew Waldriff (Brittany), Carly MacDonald (Chris), Bailey Waldriff and Taylor Bishop (Phil); four great grandchildren; Nicola Waldriff, Lincoln MacDonald, Nolan Waldriff and Connor Waldriff; brother-in-law Stan Nemec; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents, Pat was predeceased by his sister Phyllis Nemec.
Joseph Patrick Waldriff is resting at Davidson’s Funeral Home, 597 Old King George Hwy, with visitation on Friday September 16, from 12 noon until 1:30 p.m. The Funeral Service will follow at 2 p.m. in Davidson’s Funeral Home Chapel, with Reverend Willard Watling officiating.
In his memory, donation’s to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family.
