Joseph Raymond Ray Chiasson August 14 1942 May 4 2022

Joseph Raymond (Ray) Chiasson
August 14, 1942 – May 4, 2022

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Joseph Raymond Chiasson, (Ray) at the age of 79, on May 4th, 2022 at home. Ray was born in New Waterford, Cape Breton, on August 14, 1942. Ray graduated from St Francis Xavier University where he met the love of his life, Mary (McGough) Chiasson. They married on September 28, 1963, and were blessed with five children. Ray will be forever missed by Mary, and their children: daughters Michele Chiasson- Suart (Glenn) of Calgary, AB, Carole- Anne Chiasson (Aaron Smith) of Toronto, ON; sons Kevin Chiasson (Michelle Vernooy) of Vancouver, BC, Raymond Chiasson (Jennifer) Yellowknife, NWT; as well as, his sister Theresa Madden, New Waterford. Named Buddy by his grandchildren, he was a proud grandfather to Connor, Cole, Maddie, Rae Ellen, Lindsay, Rennie, Lyndon, Raymond, Julia, Chase, and Kate, and has many loving nieces, and nephews. Ray was predeceased by his son, Joseph Patrick (Joe) Chiasson, his parents, Joseph and Lucy Chiasson, as well as his in-laws Patrick and Nell McGough. Ray had the honour of serving his country as a member of the Royal Canadian Air Force. With postings across Canada and the US, many great friends, extended family, and memories were made. Ray transferred into the reserves in 1990 and served as the Atlantic Regional Cadet Support Services Officer for 13 years, retiring in 2003 after 40 years of service. Early on Ray was a natural athlete, playing basketball, badminton, volleyball, track and field. Later, he became an avid golfer and card player, and with his quick wit was always good for a laugh. He was active in the Knights of Columbus and recently looked forward to his weekly coffee with a wonderful group of five men. He was never happier than when he was surround e d by family and friends. He recently joined the Northwood Adult Day Program at Burnside ADP, where staff helped him to join others in many fun activities. Our Chiasson family will be forever thankful for the wonderful caretaker s through “Home Instead”, the excellent compassionate care by Dr. Nag Sannidhanam, sister- in-law Eleanor Hanlon and the special friendship of our neighbours, Eugene and Andrea Anderson. Ray struggled with dementia in the last few years and thanks to Mary’s love and support he was able to remain at home. He loved his Mary, who was his comfort to the end. Our family is so blessed to have had him in our lives. A funeral celebrating the life of Ray will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, May 16th, at St Clement Catholic Church, 16 Gaston Road, Dartmouth. Family flowers only. Father Gerald David officiating. Online condolences/tributes/memories may be sent to the Dartmouth Funeral Home (www.dartmouthfuneralhome.ca ). If you wish to donate in Ray’s name your support to the Alzheimer’s Society of Nova Scotia or St. Clement Church, Devine Mercy Parish
