CALDER, Joseph
June 5, 1962- January 31, 2022
With an incredibly saddened heart, we say goodbye to our beloved Joe. Joe Calder, of Wasaga Beach passed away suddenly but peacefully at home on Monday January 31, holding his father Ron’s hand. Joe was loved by his parents Ron and the late Fran Calder, as well Ron’s longtime partner Helen. He was a proud father to his two children Rachel and Ryan. Joe continued a special friendship with their mother Cindy. He was a loving big brother to Mary Frances and adored her children Patrick, Kevin, Troy and Jalen. He was greatly adored by his many aunts and uncles and all his cousins.
Spending years working at his father’s Thornhill farmer’s market, he would be the one entertaining customers as they shopped, with an uncanny way of telling stories that made you laugh till you cried. Known for his quick wit and racy jokes, he ended every conversation with “Be good, Love ya!” A tried-and-true fan to his first love, The Rolling Stones (particularly Keith) and The Toronto Maple Leafs. He enjoyed sharing a story of getting into the rehearsal space that the Stones were jamming at, as he pretended to be there for a fruit delivery. Catching the eye of Keith Richards (before getting kicked out) was the highlight of his life!
His youth was made special by playing drums and jamming with his band “Cerberus” and had a special lifelong connection with his cousin, fellow musician Michael Bray. His life was made simple and is heart so pure. Joe enjoyed connecting with family often being the first to send out a bday text or simply just that he was checking in on them. His greatest pride are his two children Rachel and Ryan, who share his same spirit and Rock n Roll heart. Joe shared many proud stories of jamming with his son Ryan and his amazing musical talent as well as Rachel’s flair for design and incredible work ethic. They were the light in his life, and it showed every time he spoke of them.
Many fond memories were made at Auntie Sheila’s Sunday dinners surrounded by the Ferlito sisters and all his adoring cousins. There were many annual Taylor Corn roasts, where Joe became the night’s entertainment, either through music or jokes and usually he would be the last to leave the party. Joe’s presence will be greatly missed, he has left a special “drumbeat” on all our hearts.
The only comfort now is that he is reunited with his most beloved treasure, his mother Fran. Joe would want us all to remember the love he so freely gave and the laughter that followed with every room he entered. To know Joe was to love him!
Due to Covid restrictions a celebration of life will occur in the warmer months.
“There’s a coffee shop down on 52nd street, and I don’t need no fancy food and I don’t need no fancy wine and I sure don’t need the tears you cry, until the next time that we say goodbye, I’ll be thinking of you…” Rolling Stones “Next Time We Say Goodbye”

Death notice for the town of: Stayner, Province: Ontario
I was so deeply saddened by the news of Joeseph’s passing. I have very fond memories of growing up with him in the house directly in back of his. He was always a ray of sunshine in the neighborhood with always always a big smile on his face. He was so genuinely happy to see people & made everyone feel special. I was also very fortunate to know his equally wonderful family. My heart goes out to Ron, Mary Frances & to the rest of his family for losing such a wonderful soul from your lives. My sincere & deepest sympathies. Much love. Your former neighbour
It’s with a heavy, saddened heart that I express my deepest condolences to Mr. Ron Calder and Mary Frances for the loss of Joseph. Joseph was an incredibly genuine person and he will be deeply missed.
