It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Guy Lacasse, on February 6, 2022 in Victoria, British Columbia, surrounded by family and friends in person and via Zoom. Guy is survived by his children: Laurel (Don) Burgess, Aaron (Lauren) White and their children Jackson, Abigail, Seth and Lila, Joelle (Scott) Turner and their sons Solomon and Simon, and Bella Marie (Desta) Wilson and their baby-to-be; loving wife Eli and her daughters Melina (Ashley) Finnigan, and sons Judah and Micah; and Gisela; siblings: Rose-Marie (Larry), Norbert (Rita), Claire, Rene (Helene), Norman, Colette (Tim), Lucien, and Jacques (Sandra). Guy will also be remembered by his many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He is predeceased by his first wife Frances Burnett Lacasse, his mother Agathe, and his father Eudore (Bit).
Guy was born on June 15, 1944 in St. Boniface, Manitoba. He grew up in Otterburne, working from a young age on the family farm. He carried this love of farming throughout his life. Guy graduated with a Bachelor of Science from the University of Winnipeg in 1970 and became certified as a journeyman carpenter, working up north on the DEW line. On December 20, 1979, he married Frances Sheffield in Medicine Hat, Alberta. They also lived in Lethbridge, AB and Portland, ON, where Guy was a high school teacher and a carpenter. Guy and his family moved to Bermuda in 1999, where he worked on several large housing projects, including the Bloomberg and Perot mansions. Guy and Fran retired to Port Hardy, BC, where they ran a Bed and Breakfast until Fran passed away in 2010.
Guy moved to Mill Bay, B.C. and later met Eli while visiting family in Bermuda. They were married on November 23, 2017, and spent the past years exploring Vancouver Island, gardening, going for Sunday drives and having coffee visits with friends. Guy took great pride in his Metis heritage and enjoyed striking up conversations with people from all walks of life, always sharing a kind word. He was a master craftsman, recently constructing an elaborate treehouse for his grandchildren; he had a unique gift for telling stories, and he loved having a dollop of honey after each meal. Most importantly, Guy had a strong faith and belief in God’s Word, praying daily for his children, grandchildren, extended family and friends. In Guy’s memory, we will continue to pray for others, help out our neighbours and share his stories.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Royal Jubilee Hospital who provided the best care possible in Guy’s final weeks. A Celebration of Life will be held at Mill Bay Baptist Fellowship, 2095 Dickinson Road, Mill Bay, at 2 pm on Saturday, February 26th, 2022. The service will also be available virtually. 1. Guy was such a gentle and kind man. He always had a great story to tell or something new to share that he had just learned or read or heard about. When he moved to this area and joined our Metis community we were blessed.
