Broussard, Joseph Francis, age 78 of Maryvale, Antigonish
County, passed away on December 11, 2022, in St. Martha’s
Regional Hospital, Antigonish, after a four-month battle with a brain
tumour called glioblastoma. As in their life, he and Mary
suffered, endured, and celebrated each day they had
together.
Born in Pomquet, Antigonish County, he was a son of the late
Francis and Esther (Doiron) Broussard.
Joe was a dedicated barber and a fixture at Henry’s
Hairstyling for over 57 years, and he showed the same great respect
for everyone who sat in his chair. He also drove
a school bus for 35 years and was responsible for getting
multiple generations of children to school safely.
Joe ensured his home and yard were meticulously kept, with rarely a
blade of grass out of place, and his passion for vehicles was well
known, as was the importance of giving them proper TLC. Joe
enjoyed travel, including vacations around the
Maritimes, Florida, the Caribbean, Las Vegas, and southern
cruises. But he will be best remembered for his love of his
family – his life-long love for his wife, Mary, and his
pride in his four daughters and their families.
He is survived by his wife, Mary (MacKinnon); daughters,
Kathy Broussard (Jeff), Halifax; Juanita Broussard (Bruce), Halifax;
Doreen (Nick) Mardas, Maine; and Jennifer (Kris) VanBerkel, Malignant
Cove; grandchildren, Kaylin, Julia, Connor, Michael, Sophie, Dylan,
Stuart, Audrey, and Lily and great-granddaughter,
Bloom; siblings, Kevin (Jeannine), North Grant; Betty
Robichaud, New Glasgow; and Ann Doiron, Pictou.
Predeceased by his sister, Mary Salsman.
Cremation has taken place. There will be no
visitation, but funeral Mass will be held Saturday in St.
Mary’s Church, Maryvale, at 10:00am with Reverend Andrew
Boyd presiding. Burial in the parish
cemetery.
