Joseph Daniel “Danny/Frenchy” LeFort (74) passed away peacefully at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney on March 16, 2022, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Cheticamp, he was the son of the late Yvonne (LeBlanc) and Patsy LeFort.
Danny is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Yvonne (Boudreau); sons, James (Clint) LeFort, Texas and Gaston (Crystal) LeFort, Sydney; daughter, Lyse Anne (Tommy) LeBlanc, Belle Cote; grandchildren, Rebecca, Luna, Alec, Daniel and Claire; siblings, Raymond (Colette) LeFort, Irma (Richard) McGuinness, Leonard (Gloria) LeFort, Linda (Gord) Wiebe, Angus (Carmel) LeFort, Roland (Amy) LeFort, Albertine Payne, Eric (Barbie) LeFort and David (Carole) LeFort; and many nieces and nephews.
The flag flies at half-mast at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 138, Ashby, in recognition of his 49 years of service as a Legion member. Danny was also an honorary lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus. A jack of all trades, Danny was always looking to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He will be fondly remembered for his genuine kindness, his strong work ethic, his witty sense of humour, and his great pride and love for his grandchildren. He lived most of his life in Cheticamp, where he raised his family. He then moved to Sydney upon retirement and was happiest while spending time with his family, hanging out with his friends at Kyle’s Paving, spending his winters down south, visiting in Cheticamp, and being his grandchildren’s #1 fan.
The family would like to offer a heartfelt thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff of the Cape Breton Cancer Centre and the Palliative Care Society.
Visitation will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Monday, March 21 from 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 22 at 11 a.m. in St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Church. The service will be live-streamed on the Sydney Memorial Chapel Facebook page for those wishing to attend virtually.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hospice Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton County.
